"Quite the opposite, actually. I have little use for money myself so I purchased you to help you. I believe that you have a chance to thrive in this environment more than you would with the military. If you chose to be helpful then that will be appreciated but it's by no means expected of you."

"No. The faculty is here to serve the students. We have rules and expectations that everyone is expected to adhere to but there are no orders. You could make an argument that the students used to 'belong' to their parents but most of them have reached the age when they begin to be in charge of themselves." she chuckles briefly. As they're walking towards the dorm she mentally reaches out for the smartphone in her pocket and uses it to pull up the instructions she received from the military. Might as well double-check the dorm room fits the requirements while she's there.

"Then how did the university come to acquire them?"

There was very little information about 70-N's living space requirements--it seems not much thought had been put into those. There was more coverage about the safety and handling, the molecular weight, the boiling point, and so forth. There were warnings about its interaction with sonics and electricity, and some basic notes about it's limitations, such as they were.
