Xaviers!

Sometime after everything settles down from the mission, Sam heads to Miss Kinney's office to see if she's in.

She raps her knuckles on the door.

"Sup?" calls her voice from inside, followed by a serious of loud 'thuds'.

"Uhm... hey," Sam says, sticking her head through the door as she opens it gently.

"Come on in." she informs Sam between punches at the sandbag she's got hanging in her office. It seems to occupy a more prominent space in the room than her desk, which looks like no one has done any actual work at it since pretty much the start of the semester. The only reasons it's not overflowing with paperwork is probably the fact that 90% of it is electronic and instead filling up her email. She throws another punch that makes the heavy bag sway back and forth. It's full of duct-tape patches covering up claw-holes.

"Blowing off steam, aye?" Sam asks as she fully enters.

"Working through some stuff. Not a fan of telepaths. No offense." she says, throwing another series of punches and ending with a kick that tears the bag off it's chain and sends it flying into the corner.

"It's... alright."

"I almost wonder if she's the one who did a number on my roommate."

"Doubt it. This was more like being pushed out." she says, angrily glancing at the bag that let her down by breaking and depriving her of the chance to wail on it some more. "Trust me, I'd know if someone tried to reprogram my head. And you would know, because she wouldn't have made it out of there alive if that had been the case."

"Well I wasn't... I wasn't implying anything. I didn't get to tangle with her anyway, her shields were too good and her werewolf friend was waiting when I found her."

"Sore spot. Don't sweat it, kiddo." she waves it off. "What can I do for you?"

"I guess... I don't know. You're not exactly a hug-it-out person, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to see how you were doing?"

"And well... you were the one who actually really got to see the bloody place. It's like what Tereza got sent to, isn't it?"

"Yeah. They're funneling mutant refugees in to condition them. And it's by far not the only one. There were dozens that came through the border with me before they split us up. I don't even want to know what the borders to China look like. There's probably hundreds of mutant pouring into Russia every day. They're not looking for viable candidates to fill a program, they're building an army."

"So even though we shut down that one..."

She grits her teeth as they sharpen, her joints popping as her frame fills out slightly, her fingers pushing forth claws.

"...damn it."

"Alright, heroics lesson one, or three or whatever, this is not an actual lesson plan, you can't fix everything. Try and you burn out fast. You did good, that's all that counts. All this crap that's going around in your head right now? The unfairness of it all and the righteous fury? Bottle it up and let it out the next time. Or find something else that works in the meantime." she says, giving the broken punching bag a decisive kick.

"It just... kind of turns all the good feelings from what we did into piss, aye?"

"But I guess... anger does work for me."

"Nothing's turned to piss. You saved a lot of people, including me. Just cause the war's not over doesn't mean you didn't win the battle."

"I just... I want to make them regret ever going after her."

"They will. We're not gonna sit idly by and let them get away with this."

"Good. I mean, I... I want in on this, Miss Kinney."

"You came to the right person. Don't tell Minamida or this'll turn into some political bullshit and they'll try to keep us out of this."

"So this is... unofficial?" She asks with some uncertainty.

"We'll see. But it's better to have that option. Sometimes it's not enough to bend the rules."

She nods slowly.

"I won't let you down."

Laura smirks at Sam. "Alright. Now go blow off some steam. Celebrate."

"...right. I guess I am a little..."

She looks down at her hands.

"...tense."

"Happens to the best of us. Just not as literally."

She nods, her frame wrenching back into a more normal form for her.

"Just let me know, aye?"

"Will do. See if anyone else feels the same way."

She nods, making her way out.

"Thanks for this. Really."
