On the Danger of Cults

Ashlie, already having send notice to Sam through all electronic means available to her, is moving towards her office to meet with Tosh and Sam. Meanwhile her algorithms are probing the school's surveillance for sightings of Will while spreading out into what little footage there is of Maldon. As tight of a net as London has, the small coastal town is not nearly as flush with cameras and Will's ability to shapeshift means she has to pull up every person, animal and vehicle to try and determine if it might be Will, trying to piece together coherent paths for all of them in an attempt to find the discrepancies that might hint at a shapeshifter moving along.

Will hadn't been trying to hide! He had marched out in full dress blues, extraordinarily conspicuous! He had left campus, and walked downtown, and then OUT of downtown.

Very few cameras on old country roads, though, so the trail went cold.

Sam is soon coming down the hallway too.

"You ah... wanted to see me, Headmistress?"

Tosh jogged up behind Sam, huffing, "Oh, good... Sam's already here." He had a backpack slung over his shoulder.

"Yes. Thanks for coming, both of you." she says as she opens her office and ushers them inside.

"It looks like someone send Will some kind of message. In the form of a dagger stabbed into his door. And now he's left campus wearing the only possessions he has." she goes on, moving over to her desk to pick up a print-out of Will walking through Maldon. "I suspect he's going to face whoever send the dagger, possibly to avoid bringing harm on anybody else at the school." she says, looking at Tosh to provide his side of things.

"I identified a pattern on the knife and... remember how I told you we met Finn McCool and how he wanted me to kill someone? Well... uhh..." he said, growing awkward, "I think it was... umm... Will."

"...so you're telling me we have to go beat up Finn McCool? He's still alive?"

"...maybe? He had an accelerated healing ability so it's not impossible."

"Well I mean I guess he is supposed to be slumbering in a cave, but it's not exactly Ireland's greatest hour of need, is it?"

"In his head he was the only one protecting us from domination by the Fae, so I'm guessing it's always that hour."

"Do you know where he went? We have to find him."

"I actually have an idea about that," he said proudly. "If the Breach was a piece of Will, he should have the same quantum signiature as it did. I just so happened to memorize it. I think we might be able to track it like Conduit did."

"Do you have a machine ready for that? If not, I should probably use... you know, the tank."

"Yeah, well, there is that too," he said, sounding just a little bit crestfallen.

"N-no! I get it. I just..."

Had a premature science boner?

"... didn't think of that..."

"It's a good idea none the less." Ashlie says somewhat non-commitingly. Regardless of the label slapped on it, between Finn and Isolde people certainly seemed to think that something bad was going to happen right here. No matter the lens it is seen through, Samantha's mutation has tremendous potential. She'd used the chamber without incident before, but she couldn't confidently say that there was no risk involved. A wide-reaching telepathic presence losing control could certainly be interpreted in a religious context and cause tremendous damage. At the same time the area had already seen dimensional instabilities letting creature through that resembled those of myths and using dimensional technology derived from Conduit could easily have unforeseen side-effects that might tear those weakspots open again. The only advantage being that she would have a better understanding of the mechanics involved.

She idly drums her fingers on her desk in an unnervingly perfect pattern as she thinks. "If we accept the fact that there's a fundamental danger motivating Finn's side, regardless of the window dressing he puts on it, then they both have risks. Conduit's technology is far from what I would consider safe and Cerebra is a powerful machine that'll put you beyond our ability to help you, once inside."

"I know there's risks, but Will's in danger. We owe it to him."

Tosh nodded. "And while you're doing that, I'll get to speedrigging up a quantum scanner to help sniff him out when you get a lead."

"Alright." she finally decides, though she's clearly not extremely happy about it, unable to properly calculate the risks involved.

"Don't worry Sam. We'll find him," Tosh said confidently but compassionately.
