Paging Dr Dugong, Dr Dugong to the Infirm

The paramedics worked quick to get Toshiro to the medical building, and Basil had stayed with Haley while they stabilized the young man in the infirmary. He remained body-invisible and mostly silent, only speaking when Haley spoke to him directly. He feared too much chit chat would make it seem like this wasn't serious, but also that if he talked too much it might make things even worse than they already were.

He sat out in the waiting room with Haley, just next to her.

Haley rocked back and forth in her seat, arms wrapped around herself, face puffy from crying, and lips bitten to try and keep herself from crying any more.

"I didn't mean to hurt him..." she croaked out after a long period of silence.

Basil rummaged a packet of tissues from his manbag and turned towards her slightly to hold them out to her. After a moment, he became visible.

He was looking at her with the best 'it's going to be OK' face he could muster given the situation, since he didn't know if it was going to be OK.

A nurse soon approaches.

"Miss Crusek? He's awake and asking for you. He's quite disoriented, so do be mindful of that."

Haley sniffled and accepted the tissue just as the nurse arrived. “I...okay,” she replied, standing up shakily, and following the nurse into the room.

Tosh seemed to be muttering to himself as she came in.

"Wake up Bro. C'mon wake up. You can't --"

He threw Haley a worried look. "What happened? They only said there was a power control incident. He... he's not waking up!" he said a distinctly surfer-y vocal pattern.

“...Bruce?” Haley asked, her faced screwed up in confusion.

Bruce... Brosh?... nodded. "I shouldn't be up front but I am. I... don't know why..."

Haley covered her mouth with her hand and the tears started flowing again. “Oh god, I ruined everything.”

"You... did?" he asked, something dawning on him, "So... a psychic thing happened?"

“...maybe?” Haley hedged, trying not to start sobbing again.

"Don't cry Babe," Brosh said reassuringly, "He'll be back. You'd never hurt him that much." He sounded like he was trying to reassure himself as well.

"God I hope not," she sobbed, standing more or less in front of the door, awkwardly far from Brosh.

"D-did you see what happened? I...I didn't mean to hurt anything...Tosh just made me so mad..."

"That's the thing. We share memories and all I remember is the fear and then the guilt. And that it had something to do with... cookies? That can't be right."

“....I wasn’t mad about the cookies, I was mad about the nudity afterwards and the not telling me part.”

"Eesh... he really..." he responded, drifting off in thought. He sighed and looked apologetic, "Not telling you was probably from my part of his brain. I'm based on his cousin and that's what he would have done. Dude goes through girlfriends like they were the catch of the day."

"So much for my positive influence."

Haley sniffled, the tears subsiding for now.

"...so. I should have been screaming at you I guess..."

She sighed, "not that any of this matters. Normal people don't smash a car into a cube or erase half their ex's brain as a result of the breakups."

"You didn't era -- whoah whoah whoah... you dumped us?" he asked with surprise. "Just like that? Harsh. He's not gone. He's sulking," he added with an eye roll.

“Harsh?! Listen you...two?” Haley trailed off, still not quite used to the double “personalities” her ex had, “...are dating a fucking telepath who tries so fucking hard not to use her powers to snoop on everything and be psycho, and you abuse her trust by just ignoring the fact that a beautiful girl was naked in your room, and trying to pretend like it didn’t happen?”

"Yes. He fucked it up, okay? He had no idea what he was doing and so did nothing. Once he got on that plane without doing it he told himself he couldn't do it by phone or email and then that virtual crap happened and when he finally remembered he..." he said, pausing, "Shit... I can't remember that part. I assume he... we made the wrong decision. No deception. Not intentionally anyway. Just... you're the first girl he... the first he had the nerve to even ask out. Every day he was afraid you'd dump him for any mistake. So when something happened that wasn't even his fault he freaked out. Please give him a second chance."

“I’ll think about it,” she said coolly. “If he doesn’t want to have cookies with his new shifter girlfriend instead, I guess.”

"I didn't," he admitted, Tosh's brand of shy embarrassment bleeding through. "Caught me completely by surprise."

He seemed to be remembering now. A good sign.

Haley chewed her lip, crossing her arms in front of her and looking down at the floor.

“I see.”

"He misses these things a lot. Got that from Dad. If Mom hadn't asked him out, then he'd probably be a very lonely man," he chuckled.

Haley barely looked up. She was crazy, and she could have hurt Tosh or Bruce badly, and the realization of this fact was rapidly sinking deeper in.

“Let’s just...talk about this later. You two should rest,” she replied meekly.

Brosh read her mood and got back on track. He wanted to reassure her but he was only half a person at the moment and the sleeping part of him was better at being sensitive.

"Oh... okay."
