"Tsk. What a brute," she murmurs as she descends into Erica's mind.

The grove itself was quiet but carried a wild feeling that spoke to Sam's other side. The trees were very much alive, but carved with all manner of symbols of power signifying all of the contracts that Erica had cut in her long life. New trees were growing on the edge of the grove, not yet big enough to sport carvings of their own. From deeper in the grove, Sam caught sight of a version of Erica, peering at her from behind a tree.

"And you keep all of this inside," Sam muses, focusing her attention on the Erica skulking behind a tree.

This Erica looks much like the present Erica except she wasn't wearing a thing and her body was painted with a continuous design. She seems to sense the focused attention and steps out from behind the tree, dropping to her knees, "Morrigan."

She still didn't stand. "Yes, Morrigan. We had an agreement. I do not believe I have broken it."

"He isn't here. He destroyed the dome, bound one of the memorial trees, and left."

Deirdre rises, motioning for Sam to follow. Their path winds through the trees to one of the deeper seconds of the grove. One of the trees, smaller than the others, but still well-carved with images. It's covered in some shimmering red energy that distorts the images, making them unrecognizable.

"Not exactly a rampage once he got in. He knew what he was looking for."

She pulls a spear from behind her that she obviously wasn't carrying and carefully prods the energy.

The energy bends a bit under her spear, reminding her of a resilient soap bubble. "Magic can tie a person to a place so that they never lose their way. I would imagine he did something similar."

"You need to tell me the instant this starts hurting," she says, trying to draw the tip of the spear through the magic.

The field seems to respond to her, as if it knows her somehow. As she drags the spear across the field, the field slowly begins to split. It doesn't seem to have much of an effect on Deirdre though.

Seeing no great distress, Sam tries to cut wholly through the field with the spear.

The blade slices through the energy and Sam can sense some sort of failsafe in it trying to light the tree on fire. Deirdre looks like she's about to panic as the crimson red flames begin to lick at the tree.

On her avatar, Sam's hair washes through to stark white as she plunges the spear into the ground near the tree, withdrawing it to reveal water springing from the earth.

"No one cheats the Washer at the Ford."

The water begins spraying on the tree, dousing the flames. One flame in particular resists the water, briefly taking on the shape of a red raven before it to is snuffed out.

She passes a hand over another scorched section of the tree, inspecting the symbols around it. ”I banished him for some reason... it looks like maybe it was connected to you... well, a previous you. Some sort of... disagreement.”

She reaches out to touch the raven carving.

A flash of memory hits her, obviously from Deirdre's point of view. The perspective indicates Deirdre's kneeling on the ground, looking up at a fierce red-haired woman wearing nothing but feathers and paint... or maybe that's blood. The woman says, "What do I want? I want everything. But you'll do for now." She reaches down and lifts Deirdre off the ground... and then the memory is broken as Deirdre pulls Sam's hand from contact with the tree.
