Miriam avoids looking at Sam for a long time, hand holding her forehead as she stares at her lap.

"Nothing I can do is going to fix anything. Besides, she's already moved on. What the hell do you want from me, Sam...?" she says, finally looking up again.

"I just... I don't want you to give up. That's... that's all."

"Why? Because you're worried about me or because you're concerned what I might do? Or do you need me to keep it together so you know there's a chance not to completely lose it yourself?"

"And what if it is that? What then? I know that's selfish of me but I'd like to think we can both make it out on the other side of this shite, aye?"

"I'm a real shitty example, I'll tell you that... But I'm not losing it. I might not be happy but I'm not going to drown in this and neither are you."

"But we're better together. We all are. We saved Wanda together, aye?"

"Still. What's there for me here? I'm one accidentally opened door away from being burned alive, what classes am I going to take that'll help me? With anything? I have no normal future anymore."

"Miriam, there's a bloody boy wizard here. The headmistress might not put much stock in him but I've seen what he can do."

Miriam kind of scoffs through her nose.

"Fine, I'll give it a chance. Even though it's not very dignified. But you owe me one."

"What's going to happen to Will?" she changes the topic after rolling her eyes at Sam's joke.

"Well we've got to tell him, don't we? We owe him that much."

"That's not Will. That's at best half of Will submerged beneath something nasty."

"Right. Figure out how to put him back together. How to chain her up again at a bare minimum."

"There's... something I need to tell you before you stumble across it. Will's holding on to some money for me." she says hesitantly, pausing for a moment to look up at Sam before going on. "A lot of money."

"Keeping it safe. Couldn't think of a safer place to put it until... this. Unless that brain parasite dumped it all..." she says and thankfully she can't really get any paler than she already is.

"No. No no no no no. I specifically told him to hold on to it!" she says, sliding off the edge of the bed and jumping to her feet.

"You mean sunset?" she rolls her eyes a little, but it's lacking some of the usual sarcastic bite. With a little bit of benefit of doubt it could even be interpreted as an attempt at friendly ribbing.
