[Plot] Questioning Mr. Dee

[Chase Delacroix]

A nurse led Chase and Leo into the room where the Tweedle was being held for observation. Chase was there to ask questions. Leo was just there to be Leo.

"No raised voices, please. I won't have you boys disturbing the other patients," the nurse said, leaving when they nodded.

"So... Do we call you Mister Dee, or do you have a name?" Chase asked.

[Narrator]

"We ain't got individual names, sos that's as good a name as any."

[Chase Delacroix]

"Are you clones, or something more like those strange canines? By which I mean not of this Earth."

[Narrator]

"Dunno for certain, but we think we started life much the same as th'rest a yous. We think we were one once, n' now, we're many."

[Chase Delacroix]

"So most likely just a mutant with a copy power. We have one of those ourselves," he responded with a nod.

"What about the dog creatures, do you know where they came from? We only know they aren't native to this universe. Which is very concerning with all the multiverse crap we deal with on a regular basis."

[Narrator]

"The Other Side." He replied. No more, no less. "Only Bunny knows how to get there."

[Chase Delacroix]

"She can make doorways to other worlds? Or just knows where one is?"

Either meant Bunny was more than just another Court member.

[Narrator]

"She makes doors, in general. Don't know if she can go t'oha' worlds beyond this one and The Other Side. Not really in my 'paygrade', as it were.

If I got paid, that is."

[Leo Eskandari]

"Then what is it Queenie has over the lot of you? Or are you just a bunch of cowards?" Leo interrupted, playing the bad cop even though Chase was likely the scarier of them.

[Chase Delacroix]

"Antagonizing him won't help, Leo," Chase admonished.

[Narrator]

"Ain't no botha." Mr.Dee replied to Chase on the topic of antagonization. " Been threatened by just as big n' bad, given my occupation."

Mr.Dee looked less than impressed, but he went on to answer Leo's question anyways. "I suspect whateva she did have on us t'start wiv has been lost in th'shuffle of th'hive-mind."

[Chase Delacroix]

"If you're a hive mind, are you at all aware of what the other yous are doing?"

[Narrator]

"Can be, but we gotta be in proximity to each otha n' we all gotta be in agreement t'communication."

Mr.Dee smirked, realizing Chase's concern. " Don't worry mate. I ain't tellin' us where I am right now oir what's goin' on. Couldn' if I wanted to."

[Chase Delacroix]

"Good to know. Of course, if you had any clue where the others went after running for the hills would you even tell us?"

[Narrator]

Mr.Dee shrugged. "Don't know. Neva' considered it really. Didn't think I'd need to."

[Leo Eskandari]

"You almost make it sound like we should know already," Leo said with actual irritation, not acting this time.

[Chase Delacroix]

"I think he's just... only part of a whole," Chase said, "As far as independent thought goes. Am I right?"

[Narrator]

Dee placed his finger on his nose at Chase's observation.

"My whole life since I was spat out from th'collective has been in that box. If it seems like I think you should know, it's only cuz that's all I know. so assuming I know what you want to know based off 'what's normal' and what ain't is rather subjective, ain't it?

Yoir not part of th'collective of me, so I can't ask foir ya t'share your thoughts, nor am I exactly th'best conversationalist. Not a lotta time to practice in Wonderland."

[Chase Delacroix]

"I'll be more direct then. We made a lot of assumptions about the control room. Are you able to enlighten us about the purpose of the machine in the middle of the floor? Or even just what sort of information it was that they didn't want us to have."

[Narrator]

"T'was a power amplifier. Specifically Queenie's, tho' I don't think that's who was in it when things in that room went ass ova' teakettle.

I think it was Bunny. She made th'door bigger than noirmal, roight? Then, they took what they wanted through to The Other Side. Things they wanted t'keep, oir people they wanted t'keep hold of, oir keep safe.

That's probably where they are roight now.

Identity information about patients seems like a good thing t'either take wiv' em, oir destroy. Infoirmation 'bout suppliers foir th'facilities. Things that could help you better identify who they are oir what The Other Side actually is. Even where, maybe." He replied to the second half of the question.

[Chase Delacroix]

Well that complicates things.

"Was the doorway opened in that room?"

Tosh could possibly glean enough from residual energies or whatever to help in the event Natalie could do some Caretaker nonsense.

[Narrator]

"Most likely yes. Best t'open a room where all th'stuff is than several doors over an' over. That would exhaust a person too quick, I'd think."

[Chase Delacroix]

"It would make sense, yes."

"One last thing and we'll be out of your hair. For now anyway. Do you know the reason behind Wonderland's curious layout? It bothers me but I can't put my finger on why."

[Narrator]

"T'fuck wiv' 'em. The patients that is. If they don't know where they're goin', s'a lot easier t'keep track ov' em. N' those that minded 'em, us, knew th'layout like th'back ov' our hands. Not alla us knew what was in ev'ry room mind, but we all knew where the'unknown things were at least.

Some'a the ones that had been there a long time knew too. But not many. Usually th'long term ones ended up in solitary. "

[Leo Eskandari]

"Patients? Please. Just call em what they were already. Prisoners. Because that sure as hell wasn't a hospital," Leo scoffed, the whole thing hitting too close to home.

[Narrator]

"You'd have t'tell me if there was noirmally a difference between prisoners an' mental patients other than medical charts." He added to Leo's outburst.

Mr.Dee was a sassypants, but didn't seem to lose his cool too easily.

[Leo Eskandari]

"Patients aren't kidnapped in the middle of the night and held in a secret underground facility. Or get put in a permanent coma for tryin to run away," Leo pointed out a little less irritably.

[Chase Delacroix]

"I'd add brainwashed into forgetting their lives but electroshock and lobotomies exist, barbaric as they are," Chase conceded.

[Narrator]

"You got anything else foir me?" He asked the pair, unphased by their observations. Either it didn't make sense, or he just didn't care.

[Chase Delacroix]

"Not at the moment," Chase answered.

"Let's go, Leo."

The big beastly mutant nodded with a grunt and the two left.
