DT1 - Shadowy Ailments

Built with a generous grant from one of the University's benefactors, this clinic serves as a small teaching hospital as well. More severe injuries are stabilized, then transported to Muir Island. It also houses the University's research laboratories.

Fourteen, ring the bell on the desk and tell them she's delirious and running a high fever.

Nailah drags Onyx into the infirmary and rings the bell on the receptionists desk, not even giving the poor guy a chance to say something before she's talking. "She's confused, delirious and running a high fever." Then, with a slightly less determined tone she softly adds. "Please. She needs help."

Soon the nurses are getting Onyx on a real gurney and wheeling her into a room as they check basic things like her temperature and fetch what documentation the school might have on her.

They appear to be preparing for the doctor's arrival.

Onyx's fever is high, not extremely dangerously so, but enough that she is very clearly ill. According to their documentation on her abilities, the healing factor she gains from absorbing large amounts of radiation should be enough to fight off most diseases. She should be absolutely fine after spending some time under a sunlamp or something.

More worrying is why she got so sick. It is very apparent that Onyx trains too much and puts too much stress on her body. If she hadn't been exhausting herself with her sheer bloody-minded stupidity about her training, she probably would've only needed a little rest and some fluids.

Nailah hounds the doctors and nurses until they tell her what's going on and let her into Onyx room, where she takes a stance in the doorway and frowns at Onyx.

"Didn't I tell you to spend some time having fun and relaxing?"

Onyx smiles uncertainly, "I mean, we are still partners, right?"

"I don't know. But if you're not happy about how things are then changing things up is probably the right decision..." As much as she'd enjoyed going out and busting those drug dealers with Onyx, she does value her friend's happiness higher than that.

"I do not know if I can trust my own decisions," Onyx says. She glances up at Nailah and for a moment, wonders what her friend would do. Nailah was brave. Kind. Stubborn.

Onyx blushes and looks away quickly.

I am running away.

She would not run.

And the truth was that Onyx desperately wanted to be like Nailah.

"No," Onyx says. "I will not give up."

"No trouble at all. Just keep the window open and I will be right back!" she grins, then turns a bit more somber when she remembers that she can't fly right now. "Or... maybe I'll just sneak in." she nods and slips out the door. "Be right back!"

About half an hour later...

The door creaks opens and Nailah, humming the Mission Impossible theme, hurries into the room with a backpack and a box of take-out that smells like Chinese food. Not that it is even remotely like actual food from China, but Nailah figured Onyx might enjoy something that feels like home. She tried. "Here's that food you ordered, Ma'am." she grins as she carries it over to her.
