Sit Down And Cool Off

After mixing it up with an organized knot of centurions in town, Tereza had reported to the infirmary. Nothing serious turned up as it was mostly minor cuts and scrapes, but they did seem interested in the new expression her power was taking. Since they had more serious things to deal with at the moment, they'd relegated her to the waiting area. So now she was sitting patiently, idly tracing the light blue lines on her with her fingers and her glowing eyes. She let her hair down which made the white streaks in it more obvious.

That's when Miriam walks in. Along with... another Miriam? At least one of them seems like she doesn't really feel like they should even be here.

"This is pointless. What are they going to do, run some tests? It'll sort itself out in time."

Tereza looked up, regarding the pair of Miriams for a moment before going back to her tracing with the comment, "You're one short if you trying to match up with Trinity." The tone was strictly observational.

"I just want some bloody pain pills, Sam." The other Miriam grumbles.

"My head is killing me."

The Miriam that just got called Sam shoots a glare at Tereza. "Yeah, very funny. What's your problem? Brain freeze?"

"That's a very distinct possibility," Tereza said with a shrug. She looks at the one called "Sam", her eyes slightly narrowed. "Get up on the wrong side of the bed, Sam?"

"She's still insisting on doing this," the other Miriam grumbles.

"It's a mental band-aid while Sam sorts herself out. You don't have actual ice in your veins, do you?" she asks with a bit more curiosity than concern, to be honest.

Tereza flexed her fingers, "A distinct possibility. They don't have time for strange power expressions right now, so I have to wait and wonder." Then something seemed to break through, "Wait, which of you is Sam?"

"She is." she says, pointing at the other Miriam.

"Any particular reason to believe it isn't true?" An eyebrow arched.

"Well, I put a mental feedback in. Or maybe she did. Thing about that is that we're sharing at least some thoughts, so it's kind of a moot point. It'll resolve itself once we go far enough away from each other. I'm pretty sure I'm Miriam, but she's just as certain, so it's possible I'm the one who is wrong. It's... kind of liberating."

"So, only one of you is my room mate, but there's no way to know which is which until your separated? Am I understanding the situation?"

"Yeah, pretty much." she says, briefly staring off into the distance.

"Someone's bringing some painkillers, just hang in there, okay?"

There's a sound from a nearby window, like something rapping against it.

Tereza was momentarily distracted by the sound at the window, turning to look at it suddenly with fog rolling off her right hand.

There's what looks to be a rather large crow perched on the outside window sill. It raps its beak against the glass again. Soon, it's joined by another.

Then, another.

"What do you mean they're back?" Tereza said, moving to the window for a closer look.

"They kind of... grew out of Sam and flew off. I don't really want to find out what happens when they try to go back to where they came from..."

The ravens seem healthy enough. Not dirty or injured. A couple more gather to perch on the sill, then eerily enough all snap their gazes to peer at Tereza expectantly.

"Curiouser and curiouser," Tereza said, staring back at the birds. After a moment of looking at how the window opened, she shrugged and the window began to rise, pushed up at the sides by ice.

"What did I just say!?"

Miriam tries to add to that with the mental suggestion of maybe not opening the window, but her attention is kind of split, what with maintaining Sam's facade of Being Miriam Bell.

Tereza's body froze and the window stopped rising and Miriam could probably pick up on her mind fighting the suggestion. Her hands twitched and the ice deformed and the window bobbled.

"Keeping those things from getting in here and trying the reverse of how they came into being. Especially if they might mistake Miriam for Sam!"

"I... don't... like... people... telling me what to do," Tereza said through gritted teeth as the ice flexed and caused the window to bobble up and down.

The ice cracked and snapped as Tereza's wavering control finally let the weight of the window win. She rounded on the Miriam who'd been talking to her, the glow in her veins growing perceptibly brighter. Her voice was low and, one might say, cold. "Why did you do that? And the explanation better not involve you or your safety in any capacity."

To Miriam's credit, the mental pressure stops right away, but then again, the fact that it had been there in the first place was still pretty rude at the very least.

"Then I suppose you're not getting an explanation." She could think of a dozen reasons why letting a bunch of ravens into a hospital was a bad idea, but she was getting increasingly pissed now, impatiently looking down the corridor past Tereza as she's waiting for one of the nurses to bring her some painkillers.

The ravens, apparently deciding this isn't working, take off from the windowsill for elsewhere.

Miriam finally catches up with herself and grabs her shoulder to stop 'herself'.
