Sept 3rd - Technical Difficulties

Ashlie is standing in the control room, watching over the shoulder of the MRI techs working the machine. Every once in a while she glances over at Rob and the machine he's lieing in. Oddly when her eyes brush over the machine there's a faint look of apprehension on her face.

Rob is pretty deeply unconscious! He puts up no resistance and causes no trouble as they run whatever tests they want on him.

Ashlie is mainly concerned about finding out whether any actual medical procedures have been done to Rob. She's not entirely sure what she's hoping for because an actual medical issue she might be able to help with in some way while a purely telepathic or mental manipulation might as well be magic to her. Either way she needs to make sure that Rob is okay first, closely watching the monitors as the machine scans his brain.

There doesn't appear to be any sign of medical intervention. However, his brain is pretty quiet at the moment. It basically looks like he's in a coma.

"Damnit." she curses under her breath. She pulls up a list of student telepaths up on her phone, frowning at every one of them. Professor X is making preparations to depart back to Westchester, but if Rob's condition doesn't improve she might have to bother him. She sends a quick email to Sam and Miriam to at least check her options while she waits.

Ashlie opens the door, letting her in. "Thanks for responding so quickly. One of the students is suffering from what I suspect is mental manipulation. I'm afraid I'm a little out of my depth in that area."

"I'm... not sure I'm an expert or anything," she says as she enters, her eyes widening as she spots him.

"Is that... Rob?"

"It is." she nods. "You don't have to do anything if you don't feel comfortable about it, I just want to make sure he's doing alright." she says, sounding genuinely concerned.

"I'm sure he appreciates your help and so do I." she says, briefly looking at the controls of the MRI machine to make sure it's turned off before leading Sam out of the small control room and over to where Rob is lieing. "If you feel overwhelmed please don't hesitate to withdraw, I'm told these things can can be fairly intense at times."

Sam makes her way over to him, sighing as the state he's in sinks in.

Gently, she tries to make contact with his mind.

The connection feels hazy at first. It' like trying to walk through a thick slab of London fog.

Hello? Is somebody there? Rob's "voice" comes out muffled and muted. It sounds a little like someone trying to talk through an old PA system.

There's the sound of crackling static and Sam can feel a wall suddenly forming between her and Rob making any further sort of shallow communication impossible. If Sam wants to go any further, she's going to have to risk going deeper.

Are you a bad enough dude to save Rob's mind?

Sam hesitates for a moment, but sensing she's losing him she pushes deeper, casting her shields in front of her as a wedge to maintain enough of an opening to allow her in.

As she approaches the walls, the fog begins to disperse. The walls are tall and imposing structures made of gold and ivory. Huge stone faces stare out across the fog with placid expressions.

Sam's shield allow her to break through the forming walls=, but as she progresses deeper the opening she made closes behind her.

Apparently, this will be one of those things where the only way out is through.

It's tough going for a little bit, Sam's shields break through the material of the wall but it's tedious work until she breaks through something that appears to be a tunnel through the wall.

"Rob, can you hear me?" She calls, continuing into the tunnel.

No answer. The tunnel goes on for a little while before she eventually reaches a large blast door. Next to it is a small booth, similar to the kind a parking attendant might be found at. It even has a bored looking woman in a security uniform flipping though a magazine.

"That's a different department," the lady says. "I just watch the door. Sign in everyone that goes in or out."

"So, if you're going in, sign here," the lady slides a clipboard towards Sam. "Otherwise, you better scram, kiddo."

Sam's avatar frowns. "Shouldn't keep people in a bloody vault," she mutters as she goes to sign.

Oddly, she signs it 'Morrigan.'

"Yeah, well, take it up with the witch," the lady says. She glances at the clipboard and then gives a sidelong glance at Sam. "Huh. Interesting."

She sets the clipboard down and hits a button. There's a warning siren and a rumble as the door slowly slides open.

"If ya wanna lift the shut-down, you're gonna have to reset the system. Keep to the path through town and go on straight ahead to the factory," the lady says. "Management can authorize a reset. If you can convince 'em."

As the door opened, Sam would see it led out onto a road. The road led through a small town, past some fields, and all the way up to a broken-down factory sitting atop a hill. The factory dominated the landscape from its position in the center of everything.

"And don't feed the wildlife."

"Going to assume Rob was unaware of witches in his head," she mutters as she starts down the road.

She hadn't walked far when she came upon Rob, tied up on a scarecrow pole. He looked like his usual self, except he had a large zipper in the middle of his forehead.

"Hey! Yoo-hoo," he called out. "You're that one girl. Sam, right? Umm, I'd hate to bother you, but would you mind untying me? This is kind of uncomfortable."

"Only one with a line out of here is the guy up in the factory," Rob says. "Well, I guess there's also the doctor but...ummm..."

"Well, you're probably better off with the factory," Rob laughs nervously.

"I am in a tremendous amount of pain."

"Wizard of Ozzie, right? I love that book," Rob says. "Or was it a movie? Series of television commercials? Something like that."

"No, nothing like that. That'd be silly."

That's when Sam heard a new voice call out.

"Oi! What are you two doing?"

From down the road, two more people approached! One was just Rob with slick hair and wearing a leather jacket.

The other was wearing a familiar set of armor.

"...We do have a cowardly liar and an Iron Man though," Scarecrow Rob said.

Once he's loose, the Brainless Rob hops down from the pole.

"Thanks. That was uncomfortable," he says. Then he pulls a death ray from his pocket and shoots the other two before they can get any closer. In two flashes of light, they're reduced to ash.

"That would've gotten really confusing, really fast," Rob says. "Sorry, we haven't been introduced. I'm Rob."
