Even X-Men Have Sick Days

Haley coughed and winced immediately afterwards as she pushed herself upright in her bed in the infirmary. Her hospital gown wasn't doing an especially great job of covering herself, especially if you were looking in towards her bed from the door, but she was hotter than hell so she didn't really care as she flung her sheet to the side.

She was feeling better than she was a week ago at least. Whatever bullshit super flu or whatever was no joke. Hopefully Tosh had a better immune system than her. Not that they'd gotten to see each other much lately with how busy with school and X-Team shit he'd been.

As luck would have it, she caught Tosh's familiar shark infested mental presence just before he entered on the doorframe.

"Hey," he said, lifting up a thermos, "I brought soup."

And he totally didn't even eat any at all.

"Toshie!" she squeaked--quite literally, as most of her voice was still gone. "You're so sweet!"

She rolled her eyes at her voice, and let out of huff of frustration. "Well, we're apparently doing it this way instead." she replied mentally. "I'm supposedly not contagious anymore, so if you want to come closer you can, but I look so gross."

She pushed herself further upright in bed and reached for the rolling table next to it, giving her boyfriend an even better view of exactly how little the hospital gown was covering at the moment.

"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't..." he began before registering her increasingly nearly nude condition. "Uhh... you've got... umm... a little... wardrobe malfunction there."

"It's nothing the nurses haven't seen before," she replied dismissively.

"I missed you! You went on all of these secret missions and left me all alone and then I got the fucking plague and got stuck here instead of helping get Will back, or helping 'Reza ... we'll work through whatever shit she's working through. "

Tosh still had a great view. Why did she like breaking his brain so much?

He came closer and put the thermos on the rolling table.

"I've missed you too," he smiled, "Especially when I'm working on that cache of crazy internet Russian nonsense. Serious waste of time so far."

(before his success, in my head-timeline)

"My poor guy," she frowned. "Well if anyone can figure it out it's you. You're like the smartest guy on the planet. It's so sexy."

Haley eyed the thermos hungrily, "So what kinda soup did you bring me?"

"Chicken noodle. My mom sent me some of hers frozen when I mentioned you were sick. It's awesome."

"She's super excited I have a girlfriend, by the way."

"Yassssss! My favorite!" she grinned.

"Telling your parents about little old me, eh?"

"Why wouldn't I brag about my awesome girlfriend to all my friends and family? There were legit worries that I'd end up building a robot one."

"Would you have? Will you still? I mean. A robot threesome could be interesting," she giggled. It wasn't clear if she was joking or not.

"Only if the fembot has gun-boobs."
"Wait what... why?"
"Reference points."

He blushed at his internal mental exchange.

Haley's giggling intensified as she listened to Bruce and Tosh banter, though the giggling just made her have a coughing fit that ended with her panting and pouting. "Ugh...I'm so god damn tired of coughing...

"Are you at least feeling better? You look better," he asked with concern.

"Yeah, I can breathe now, and I don't have the chills anymore. Now all I'm doing is coughing. And coughing. And coughing some more. What needs to happen immediately is a shower, though. I fucking stink."

She kept eyeing the thermos.

"Still pretty weak. You better feed me." she smirked.

"It's more that I'm lazy." she smirked. And that I don't have a spoon and don't feel like drinking soup from a thermos. And that if I get up to find a spoon this gown might fall completely off, and then you'll go blind."

"I'll... uhh... go... get a... soup... holder?... Bowl."

Tosh was back with a bowl, a spoon, and crackers, and was serving up delicious smelling soup in no time. He brought a chair close and scooped some up.

"I've fed my grandma before, so I probably won't get more soup on you than in you."

Haley let out a snort of laughter, "I hope that's the only thing your grandma and I have in common."

She cooperated for the first bite, and smiled contentedly as she swallowed the soup. "Really, really amazing. Though let me eat on my own," she said grabbing the spoon from his hands. "I'm not that helpless yet."

"I can't wait to get out of here. I miss training and seeing you, and beating the shit out of bad guys with Sp--" she caught herself. "I...uh....well. By the way. I might have kinda gotten myself sick by staying out super late doing some moonlighting as a crime fighter after still doing all my normal shit during the day."

"With Sphinx I assume. You do know I had to rush her to the infirmary after that Hazard psycho beat the crap out of her, right? This is what we have teams for," he said. He didn't sound angry or even disappointed, just concerned.

"She and I are a team!" she protested before looking down into the bowl of soup and pushing the contents around with her spoon. "And a good one. We do keep each other safe," she added, sensing his concern.

"You know what I mean Haley. There's a support system."

"Of course, you can totally take care of yourself."

"But... well you're my girlfriend, so I have to worry."

"Well, I mean, it's not like you're one of those dorks that doesn't shower for days on end. And you're sexy. And then you have Bruce who is fun on his own too. Not that everyone else can hear him like I do."

"Speaking of unfiltered thoughts getting you into trouble..." she replied mischievously, pausing to eat another bite of soup and keep her boyfriend in suspense.

"I've been reading some psychic theory while in here and I have some ideas I want to try with you while you're alone in your room and I'm alone here after the night nurses stop checking on me. You know. For science."

Later, in Science Dorm...

When finally alone, Tosh laid down and texted Haley a thumbs up emoji.

Almost instantaneously, Tosh could see that Haley was replying and just like that a message popped up on his screen.

Code: Select all
So I think based on all the nerdy books in your room, u might like this.... close your eyes, and lay down on your bed ^_-

If Tosh did so, he'd find himself standing in a windy field before a large castle in the edge of what appeared to be a tall cliff. Lightning arced across the darkened night sky followed by a low rumble of thunder. He was wearing basically the same armor and weapons of one of the pictures on the front of one of Tosh's D&D books.

"Tosh! You have to save me from the evil warlock! I'm locked in a tower!"

The castle had an almost comically out of proportion tall tower with a single window at the top, bright light shining out of it and into the night sky.

"Okay, this... this is cool," he said... thought?... as he gazed up at the tower.

"So is this your head or mine?"

There was no response other than a series of moans from the tall prairie grass surrounding Tosh as several corpses rose out of the ground and started to close in on Tosh.

"The princess is mine!" hissed one of the corpses.

"And you--" growled another in the same voice.

"--will be yet another one of my slaves."

Tosh would notice a cloaked figure standing on the castle wall some distance away, apparently controlling and speaking through his undead minions.

"Necromancer. Should've known," he quipped as he drew his sword, which he could actually use in mindspace.

"I'll give you one chance, foul warlock. Release the princess and I'll consider not sending you to join your unholy minions in death!"
