Walking And Chewing Gum

Postby Natalie Denisov » Mon Jun 24, 2019 6:56 pm

As a part of her rehab, Natalie had been walking and the habit just sort of stuck. Now she was doing a gentle walk on one of the treadmills, one of the TVs in the gym flipping idly between channels while another was apparently now connected to some sort of computer and showing some sort of armor designs that were in the process of being refined and adjusted as she continued walking.

Eli walked into the gym wearing workout shorts and his red hoodie. He'd wanted to field test some modifications he'd made to his legs (minus the knee skull), sand it was hard to jog in your room and the hallways seemed less than ideal in his opinion. He sat on a bench and made some minor adjustments before moving through some movement exercises.

Natalie looks over in Eli's direction with some curiosity. The channel flipping pauses as do the design changes.

Eli stopped and removed his hoodie. He was oddly enough wearing a work out shirt, but still it was easy to tell his body was most if not all a metal frame (see previous link for arms). Dozens of metal tentacles uncoiled from his arms. The tentacles themselves appeared to be connected to the frame at what should be Eli's spine. The tentacles extended down towards his legs and made another series of small adjustments to help with load distribution and power ratio of various of 'muscles' that stabilized the legs.

Natalie stumbles just briefly as her concentration falters. She grabs a hold of the treadmill bar to steady herself, managing to get back into a walking rhythm, but not without a lot of noise.

Eli looked up for the source of the noise. He walked over toward Natalie thinking the treadmill was perhaps malfunctioning.

"Are you in need of assistance?" Eli asked.

"No, no. I'm good. Just getting my legs back under me. Nervous system's just not all there yet. I don't think I've seen you around before. I'm Natalie."

If Natalie looked she would see that Eli wasn't a machine in the strictest sense or at least not an android, but that the body itself was made up of a series of somewhat crude but robust subsystems for managing the frame's various functions. It just seemed to lack any centralized processing.

"I'm Eli and I just transferred here from an X-Corp facility," Eli said, "The treadmill states it is functioning nominally, but to be cautious at speeds over 8 mph."

"It's what I do pretty much," she says, the treadmill slowing down without her touching the controls and coming to a stop.

"I can make images of what I see, store them off. Spent some time in a mechanical frame after a power accident and have hopped between a couple of systems since then."

Eli whistled or at least the speaker played the sound of an impressed whistle.

"I did not imagine entering and then exiting a frame would be possible," Eli said before pausing for a moment to think. "Perhaps easier if your body was intact."

"Getting back into it was a little difficult. I had to have some hardware installed." She taps something metal on the back of her neck.

Eli's eyes clicked he was quite intrigued by Natalie's solution to her problem.

"Ah, a direct neural interface?" Eli asked.

"Cable only, for obvious reasons," she says, "Really only designed for me to push my 'data' through. Not sure it'd be useful for anything else."
