"Both. I have responsibilities and the less serious it's taken the more I feel I have to pick up the slack..." she says. Grouching about this is hard without explicitly bringing up Katarina and her status.

"So other people don't take your responsibilities seriously and you think that makes you have to work harder?" Tereza sounds a little confused.

"Certain people." she hedges. "Like herding cats, yes?

"That could be said about a lot of things around here. What are these responsibilities exactly?"

"That I can't tell you. It's... well, it's not really confidential, but I've been asked to keep it that way by the cat."

"Ah, so there is a *specific* cat you're herding. Sounds rough. Hopefully you can at least enjoy yourself on occasion."

"Why does everybody keep telling me that?"

"Because it's important. It's all well and good to want to save the world, but the burnout can be very real."

"Hey, you do you. I'm not gonna tell someone to not be themselves. But no one can stand watch all the time."

Nika sighs. "I know. Just hard to relax when that's always in the back of your head."

"You do realize the person you're protecting is in a collection of very capable beings who would go to bat to protect anyone on this campus, right? Hell, I'd punch someone in the face to protect even the people I'm *not* fond of."

"I can respect that. But it's... it's complicated. She's optimistic and naive and eventually that will hurt her in a way I can't protect her from."

"Some people have to be naive and optimistic. It gives the rest of us hope. And sometimes you just can't protect people without making them less. My girlfriend and I had some intense arguments before I learned that lesson."

"No but that's exactly it, yeah? Her hope and optimism inspires people. How do you protect that without making it wither?"

"You let her be her. When she takes a blow, you're there to pick her up and help her get back on her feet. You stand beside her and help her take on the world." She gives a small chuckle, "Or at least that's what I try to do. I'm not always successful in holding back like I should."

"No problem. I've always been somewhat protective, especially about things I care about, so I get where you're coming from. If anything, becoming a werewolf made those tendencies worse."
