Xaviers!

Without much pomp or ceremony, construction has begun on the grounds across from the Rec Center. Unfamiliar faces of mutants and humans alike have begun digging up the lawn. Nearby a group is surveying the tree-line, marking them off for relocation, disposal or viability for lumber. Ashlie is standing nearby, wearing a brilliantly white construction overall over her blouse and a yellow hard hat. Tablet in hand she checks things off as people bring in material, directing people and explaining her blueprints. In the sky two flying mutants are somehow carrying a whole pallet of bricks between the two of them. On the ground a telekinetic is ripping a boulder from the ground that the digging encountered, as evidenced by the small excavator cowering on it's treads like they were haunches and slowly waving it's big shovel like one might a banged hand.

"Not a bad turnout for day one," Assistant!Will said, scanning over the crowd as Ashlie organized and managed the workmen.

"It helped to pay a week's up front. But we did get a couple of volunteers. I believe that is your daughter in the excavator." she says, indicating the 'hurt' machine with her stylus.

"Yes. She never really got the 'staying in role' part of her powers. Something to work on going forward."

"You want her to follow in your footsteps that closely?"

"Oh, it's not that at all. I'm proud she's become her own woman.

But if she'd learn to focus for more than 35 seconds at a time..."

Shane walked along the treeline using his ability to connect to plants to assess their viability, making a mark on the trunk for whatever fate he decided. He wasn't entirely comfortable playing grim reaper for trees but it was for a good cause.

"Not everyone can have the patience of eons spent waiting and she's young, even by normal timeframes."

"She's young, yes, but she's always had a habit of throwing herself at things without thinking them through.

No idea where she picked that trait up from."

"It's truly a mystery. I can only assume raising her was a lot of 'Do as I say, not as I do'."

"Depends on which parent or parental figure was doing the teaching, I suppose," Will said, with a slight smile. "Sometimes, they only way to begin is by beginning."

"Hmm, yes yes. Very good tautology." she says, tapping the side of the tablet with her stylus. "Very true though. My condolences to her mother then." she chuckles. It's something Ashlie has been doing lately, but it's still a little... odd.

"The best advice always seems obvious, once you've taken it."

"Speaking from experience there?"

"I like to phrase it as 'fully exploring the space of possible decisions'."

"That's a good one. I'll have to remember that. Sounds much better than messing around and screwing up."

"Nothing is truly a screw up if you can take something positive from it.

More parental wisdom, there. And a handy excuse when multiple angry people are demanding an explanation."

"Dangit!" she shouts and chucks her stylus at the ground, which is not very satisfying at all.

"How do you do this? Every time!" she complains as 'Ashlie' turns back into Robin. "I could swear I had you for once!"

"Ashlie informed me she was stuck in traffic about 15 minutes ago. And she doesn't laugh like that. And she's capable of not fidgeting for more than 45 seconds at a time.

Other than that, though, you were flawless," Will deadpanned.

"Okay that is clearly bollocks! Knowing all along's cheating." she frowns with her hands on her hips, conveniently ignoring all his other very good points.

"You have a sense of style. A gift -- but it shines through, to those who care to look," Assistant!Will said, demurely.

"Well who am I to argue with that." she says and flips her hair dramatically.

"If it makes you feel better, I think you fooled that last contractor.

Fooled and confused, because I don't recall Ashlie suggesting a selfie room installed at any point."

Robin groans. "It's called a Self Room. You know, for when you need to take a mental health break for a bit or just need to chill. No one's gotten excited or annoyed about 'Selfies' in a decade, pops."

"And how far back in the past are we?" Will said, raising an eyebrow with the hint of a smirk.

"Mmm, yeah, nope, that don't apply here, daddy-o. You thought I was talking about selfies because you're like a billion years old." she laughs.

"At least," Will quipped. "I'm just well seasoned, is all."

"Sure, sure. Seasoned with lots of rust and cobwebs."

Will wrinkled his nose. "I try to avoid rust. Super uncomfortable, and I know it's psychosomatic, but it never feels like it really goes away, you know? Itchy and creaky and painful."

"Want me to call one of the guys over? They got oil cans and angle-grinders for dealing with busted old machines." she chuckles.

Will considered it for a moment, and then shook his head. "Nah, I'm on the job today. Business before pleasure."

"Well, they're here all week. All you gotta do is never hear the end of how they had to restore an antique."

"You say that like I don't like people talking about me," Will laughed. "My ego is doing just fine, thank you."

"Bah! Let me needle you!" she laughs.

"You want to find me with more anxiety to poke at, you've got to go to the mirror," Will joked. "No place for that on the job."

"Right, right, this is BusinessProfessional. Executive Assistant? Do you give the different ones names while they're out and about or do they happen too organically for that?"

"I'm still kind of feeling my way through this, y'know? This is new to me, too. I try to, erm, avoid other versions of myself when I'm out and about, typically.

So no names or designations or anything as of yet."

"So what you just... swerve if you're coming down the same hall? Do you have a big board of who's out dong what so you don't get two of you heading out to the same spot?"

"There's a couple pieces of paper tacked to the back of the frame of the mirror. Sometimes, I'm, erm, better at filling it out than others."

"Clearly you need to send one out that just loves lists and keeping track of the lot of you."
