"Well little Madame, you've got your work cut out for you then, because I am British.

Policy dictates that I am to collect all hopes, dreams, and aspirations into a pile, package them up in brown paper as if this were Christmas, and then bury them as deep inside of me as they will possibly go. "

Basil took another swig of his beer before continuing.

"The yanks took all the can-do attitude with them when they left centuries ago. Now we're just a land filled with sarcasm and terrible food. "

"Sailor Moon and Star Trek in the same conversation? "

Basil's voice took a very grave sounding turn.

Madame Rosenhof... Are you a... Are you a nerd?"

"Who is Bojangles? Is this some kind of initiation? Did I miss the memo at the annual gathering?"

"Oh." it took drunk Basil a moment to catch on. "OH! That American show with the gentleman in the Flash shirt?

I hate that show.

I like Dr.Who." He offered in a sagely tone, as if she somehow cared.

"Whhaaaaaat? How can you not like Dr.Who? It's fantastic! Traveling time and space and dashing around everywhe-"

Basil was talking with his hands now, and as he brought one of his arms too far back thanks to drunkenness ruining his judge of length, his chair slipped out from under him and he fell backwards in his chair with a crash.

"Bloody-fucking-Christmas!" He swore out loud at the pain of landing on the ground, the chair digging into his spine.

Colette jumped in her seat and let out a startled cry as Basil fell backward, wincing at the sudden commotion he made as he crashed to the floor. She quickly got out of her seat and knelt beside his prone form.

"Baseel? Basil! Are you alright?"

The pain had sobered him up quickly. Now he laid there for a moment, thinking.

"Yeeeeaaa. I think it's time for Basil to collect himself off the floor, take some aspirin and a bottle of water, and call it a night."

He leant forward slowly to sit upright, allowing Colette time to back up from his raising body from the floor.

"no no. I'll be fine. I've made enough of an ass of myself for one night to do it again." He didn't exactly run off, but he did seem to be engaging in body language that suggested he was no longer wanting company.

"Goodnight Madame Rosenhof. Do try to enjoy the rest of your evening." His upper body bowed slightly before he made a wincing sound and turned to leave.

Colette held a hand gently over her chest as she watched Basil head toward the door. "Dormez bien, monsieur Benson." Once he'd left she stooped down and righted his chair before taking her seat again, mulling over the night's events while finishing her drink.
