Midnight in the Garden of Good and Eevee

With her classes done for the afternoon and a few hours until the cafeteria was serving supper, Jez could be found laying sideways across one of the oversized chairs in the student lounge. Her feet dangled over the edge of the armrest as she tapped on her phone. From her position she was just within range of the campus' Pokestop, which made for a good way to kill some time and earn some XP. She reached into a bag of cheese sandwich waffles to munch on a few, crumbs collecting on her chest.

Nika walks in, wearing an unzipped track-suit jacket over her tank-top with a sportsbag slung over her shoulder and her still-wet hair slicked back. Fresh from working out she heads over to the refreshment counter to pick up an apple. Taking a bite out of it she heads for the door again when she spots Jez who'd previously been hidden from view by the back of her chair. She stops and finishes chewing while she waits for Jez to acknowledge her presence before speaking up.

"You're Jezabelle, right?"

Jez was a little distracted at first, but eventually noticed the woman's gaze and began to collect herself, shifting to a more upright sitting position and putting her phone away.

"Oh, yes, I am. I'm sorry, are we in a class together?" She asked ass she tried to place the face, brushing the crumbs off of her shirt.

"Yeah, actually. PolSci, I think? I'm Nika." she quickly adds. Being nice is hard, being intimidating and formal is so much easier.

"Oh that's right! Yes now I remember." Jez smiled before her eyes went wide, recalling the name. She looked the woman over again; yeah, this was definitely the woman Katarina had mentioned. Realizing the awkward pause she'd created she cleared her throat.

"Sorry, I just... nevermind. Hey, have a seat! You want some of these cheese cracker things?"

"No thanks. Just got done working out." she says since that obviously explains to everybody that she shouldn't carb up right now. She does sit down though. "What are you doing?" she asks, nodding at Jez's phone as she puts down her bag.

"Oh, okay." Jez was someone who ate smart but snacked stupid, so she didn't really know a lot about carbs and such; or more accurately she didn't care. But she didn't feel like the answer required any further explanation. She shifted in her seat before looking in the direction that Nika had nodded.

"Oh, I'm just playing some Pokemon Go." She wasn't sure how much more she needed needed to clarify there. "Do you play it?"

"That's one of those geo-tag thingies, right? No." she shakes her head. "Aren't you worried about constantly being tracked?"

Jez failed to hide a little smirk. "I'm a mutant, a citizen of Genosha, I take part in civic demonstrations, and... a few other things. They can only track me so many times before it becomes redundant."

"Few things'd make me happier than certain people thinking so." Jez let herself relax in her chair a bit. "We all gotta do our part, you know?"

"That's a slippery slope." Nika says surprisingly diplomatically.

"Hmm? Which is the slope?" Jez asked, not sure what the woman is getting at.

"Breaking the rules. I'm sure plenty of Brotherhood members started out meaning well."

"Ghandi broke the law when he organized the salt marches. Rosa Parks was breaking the rules when she refused to give up her seat for a white man. There is no immorality in defying a rule or law which is in itself immoral or unjust, especially if you can do so peacefully. There will always be radicals and extremists on both sides of the spectrum, you can't let their existence prevent real efforts toward beneficial change."

"All I know is you start breaking the rules too much and people get hurt." she simply shrugs.

"And if you never question the rules people could be hurt as well. The purpose of protest isn't to bring about a coup or a violent revolution, but to bring about a conversation, to actually discuss the issues. And a lot of people are willing to just remain complacent or oblivious unless the issue is brought to their attention. We are growing and evolving as a society, as a species; our rules and legislations need to follow suit."

"Well I think you're pretty smart, you wouldn't be here otherwise right?" Jez leaned forward enough to grab another cracker from the bag and pop it into her mouth before she spoke with her mouth full. "But I get it, politics and such isn't everyone's thing, that's cool."

"I'm not book smart. I'm here to... protect people." she says a bit evasively. This whole situation is well outside her comfort-zone, especially since she feels she should determine whether or not Jezabelle might potentially put some dangerously radical ideas in Katarina's head.

"Ah, so you think that bodily-kinetic intelligence is your strong suit? There's nothing wrong with that! And it's very noble of you to want to train your powers so you can help others. Have you looked into joining one of the X-teams? I'm sure you'd do great."

"I have. I'm still trying to figure out how to fit it into my schedule and reconcile it with my other responsibilities. But I'm pretty well trained already at any rate." she says with a bit of a smirk.

"Well the professors here are pretty understanding when it comes to that extracurricular activity." Jez couldn't help but grin at Nika's confident smirk, glad to see that this talk of politics hadn't made too bad of a first impression.

"Oh, are you now? Well I'd love to see what you can do sometime."

"Ah, well, yes to both? Like if I got punched in the gut they'd probably be distracted, but they wouldn't have the wind knocked out of them. I can cut them loose, but the more I do the longer it takes for me to recover. Like if you ran a marathon or something."

"I think I'd like that. I've been hemming and hawing about joining one of the teams, I think seeing one of the pros at work might give me the courage to try it myself."

Jez looked over Nika once more. "I suppose your schtick involves strength or something?"

"Not at all. These are nothing but hard work." she says, mock-flexing at Jez. "I charge things with kinetic energy."

Jez's shoulder twitched from an attempt to repress a shiver. It seemed that the girl was impressed. "Oh, so like throwing baseballs through walls kind of charge? Or the exploding playing cards kind?"

"More the former." she says with a smirk. "Can't really use it directly most of the time, but I've been working on some things to help with that. Use it on my shoes to lift myself into the air, that kinda stuff."

"Hey, that's pretty good! Pretty soon you'll be jumping over tall buildings in a single bound. That's one of the things I like most about the professors here, sometimes they can come up with ways to use your abilities that you otherwise would never have considered."
