Sep 7 - A Well Deserved Drink

Since there wasn't much they could do for Sam until she made contact, and not much point to trying to talk to Zephyr again, Tereza settled into the XUB with a decent beer and decided to just watch people for a while. A tiny ice humanoid performed air guitar on the tabletop while she drank.

"Care for some company?" Vivienne asked. She appeared to have been introduced to the campus store, she had a note book and a pen, she was wearing a standardized college sweatshirt proclaiming her school pride and freshman status.

She sat and watched Tereza a moment.

"Most imaginative. Not particularly useful, but entertaining." She smiled and moved her hand over the figure, the puddle at its feet forming a tiny lute in its arms.

"I suppose there's not harm in talking to you about it. I just had to confront some ugly parts of my past today. Stuff that... well, saying I'm not proud of it would be lying at least to some extent. It's just..." She took a long thoughtful sip of her beer, "I want to be that better person, but it's proving to be a lot harder than I thought it would be."

After what probably felt like ages, and a thorough debriefing, Sam is freshly showered and back in civilian clothes. She spots Tereza and gives a sheepish wave as she heads over.

Vivienne gasps softly as Sam approaches. She quickly looks away, her hair blocking Sam's view of Vivienne's face as it changed and the bottle of discarded water two tables over became very excitable.

When she spots Sam, the little ice figure on the table stops his air guitar and begins waving his arms frantically before shuddering to a halt and going back to his air guitar. "Sam! You made it back! Any troubles?"

Vivienne sat up straight and the bottle's contents quit trying to make an escape as she turned back to the two. She had changed, her eyes completely dark and she was staring at Sam's right shoulder.

"I'm not sure. Maybe she was right about the fey thing and it's some weird fey shit," Tereza said with a shrug. She moved and blocked Vivienne's line of sight to Sam. "Vivienne, snap out of it."

Tereza broke the line of sight and Vivienne blinked, as she did the human color returned to her face and eyes. "What? Forgive me, I acted rudely." She bowed her head, taking a deep breath.

"She claims she is, or half-fairy at least," Tereza said, taking her seat again. The small figure had been trying to peer around Tereza, but went back to his air guitar as she settled again. "You okay, Viv?"

"I am slow in understanding at times, interpersonal interactions are not my strong suit. It is not a problem, only a cultural difference. Much is interconnected and there are some things I am prohibited from speaking of." She looked thoughtful for a moment before continuing.

"I was raise by my mother and her sisters. They avoided contact with outsiders, this was not always the case, but things most often ended poorly for them. Only my mother spent time within the Court and she found it not to her liking. She unwisely chose to deprive me of the proper education available to all young ladies within the Court and when I was chosen to cross the barrier and come here, I first had to be sent to the Court in order to repair my lack of proper education. During my time I was welcomed and invited to lavish and luxurious parties. Such relationships are not uncommon among those of the Court, many of the parties where in celebration of these. Of course, being uneducated as I was, I found such free displays of affection shocking and at times distasteful."

Vivienne spoke slowly her words being chosen carefully, a glance at her note book would reveal places where she had pressed the tip of her pen hard into the paper while she spoke. Sam may pickup her thoughts, while they would not be in English and maybe strangely alien yet familiar, she would hear a secondary "voice" speaking over Vivienne's at certain moments.
