"Little bit beyond that, but had some similar rules on the surface. 'Don't go here, don't do that, be in your room by such and such a time.' All excuses to punish us."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Kind of seems like an exercise in futility when you've got students with powers."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"That's why you have the 'in-crowd', the teachers' pets who also have powers to narc on those of us who will never ever measure up, because those in charge have stacked the deck. And then you have the sad cases who have being a part of the 'in-crowd' dangled in front of them like that will actually improve their situation."

"Aren't there people here who can pretend to be those students?"

[Tereza Rozanov]

"A few. And you can bet they're being watched extra closely."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"I'm just saying, plan seems full of holes."

"Granted, I'm getting kind of used to no plan surviving contact with me."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"They have all the records, they know what you can do. They may have accounted for that," Tereza points out, draining her current beer.

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Maybe, but I'd be surprised if they could do anything about it."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"Lucky you then. I'm fairly certain the Headmistress probably cataloged the weaknesses or myself and the rest of my pack. Seems like the sort of thing she'd do. I'm just glad Viv's somewhere safe now. One less person to worry about."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"I mean, I'll help if you've got something in mind."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"Oh, I'm sure they'll be keeping an eye on me. Even the Headmistress thought I was a troublemaker. And if I get locked away, there's going to be no one to protect the pack."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"You uh... you really don't have much faith in your girlfriends, do you?"

[Tereza Rozanov]

"Okay, so I mispoke," she says with a soft snarl, "Then I won't be here to help protect the pack."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Just... seems like you're putting an awful lot on your shoulders."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"You wouldn't understand even if I explained it," Tereza says, "It's just... a thing I have to do."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"You don't... let things go easily, do you?"

[Tereza Rozanov]

She gives Janice some side-eye. "What are you getting at?"

[Janice Gilbertson]

"I mean, you don't seem like you're really comfortable letting other people do stuff for you."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"You know, maybe you're right?" Then her mood sours further, "But I think we're done here."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Okay, okay," she puts her hands up in surrender.

[Tereza Rozanov]

"I just have to make it to the end of the school year," she says, "That's all the agreement required."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Hey, you already said it's not my business."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"And yet you're still here," she says, looking at Janice.

[Janice Gilbertson]

"Haven't finished my drink," she raises her glass for emphasis.

[Tereza Rozanov]

"Nobody likes a smartass."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"I mean, I could start asking questions again."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"I'd rather you didn't." She sighs, "Point taken. I'll go then." She fishes some bills out of her pocket and tosses them on the bar. "Just be careful."

[Janice Gilbertson]

"...you too."

"Seriously. Don't do anything crazy."

[Tereza Rozanov]

"Probably an inevitability," she says, turning and walking quickly from the bar.
