[Social] The Bubbles in my Beer Help Me Study

[Haley Crusek]

Haley had spread out in one of the larger booths a tablet off to one side, a bowl of chips and salsa just on the edge of being reachable in front of her, and an array of pens, highlighters, and pencils scattered around the notebook she was furiously scribbling in. She stopped mid stroke and sighed, dropping her pen and leaning back to rub her eyes with the heels of her palms before taking an impressively long pull of her pint of beer.

“Fuck,” she somehow swore through an impressive belch for someone of her stature, “Organic chem sucks “

[Nailah Weaver]

"Shouldn't've taken organic chemistry." a familiar voice provides helpful advice moments before Nailah drops into the seat across from Haley with a minimal kerfuffle of feathers, though one or two downy ones land on the spread of Haley's stuff. "Why are you taking organic chemistry anyway?" Nailah's holding a bottle of beer on her own but it barely has any sips taken out of it and the label is torn with neat gauges in a couple of places from picking at it with her sharp fingernails.

“Because I’m a chemistry major,” she sighed with a chuckle, shoving books off the the side.

“What’s up, Nai?”

"Okay, obvious follow-up question then..." she chuckles but actually leaves the 'why chemistry' unasked. "Doing okay, I guess. Just turned in my term paper and got chewed out for missing ninety percent of classes." she shrugs slightly. She knows she aced the exam and the paper, but deep down it is bothering her a little that she didn't actually learn very much by just cheating with her power. "But, I mean, doesn't matter if I'm passing right?"

She smirked, “Have you seen me try to write a paper? Have you seen me read anything that isn’t porn? There’s at least a right answer to find in science most of the time.”

“Have you considered attending classes?” she teased back.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Yes but I like to get more than two hours of sleep. And I dunno, it feels hard to be motivated. Like, what, am I gonna go out there and have a regular job? Looking like this?" she asks and briefly spreads her wings before awkwardly folding them down against her back again. She hadn't meant to get so real all of a sudden but ironically she doesn't like thinking about the future very much and that's what classes and school always seem to inevitably lead to.

Haley frowned a bit, her friend’s wing-spreading a reminder of her own recently acquired wings. She had moments where she could almost forget about them now—at least as much as someone could forget about a normal appendage. “…fair,” she sighed.

She looked back at the pair of somewhat iridescent purple-blue butterfly wings on her back as she gently extended them to stretch, “I’ve knocked over so much shit in the lab with these damn things…”

“And now they’re not only annoying, they’re also a reminder of another relationship my Walmart-brand-Tinkerbell looking ass fucked up”

"Oh come on, they're at least Target-quality. Have you made any progress on the whole flying thing? Because that's worth a million toppled beakers." she asks, propping her arm on the table and the side of her head against her knuckles before taking the tiniest sip of beer. She's not a fan of the taste but it's what cool people do, right?

[Haley Crusek]

That brought a bit of a smile back at least. “Not much. I don’t know if they’ll ever be something that lets me like fly on their own, but it’s sort of helped like… stabilize me if I’m doing my TK “flying” and definitely makes it less immediately headache inducing?”

She watched Nailah sipping her beer. “Did any of that liquid actually pass your lips? Or are you just kissing your beer chastely?”

"Shaddap, we can't all be practiced in the art of crushing beer cans with our head. And you should practice more, they're like any other muscle even if they look all delicate and twinkly. Flying's different than hovering through the air. It just is."

[Haley Crusek]

“Excuse me, I don’t crush beer cans on my beautiful head, I belch, like a fucking lady.” she laughed.

“And yeah. I need to practice more now that they’re fully grown. Maybe you can show me the ropes?”

[Nailah Weaver]

"I didn't say on your head, Lisa Frank." she rolls her eyes.

"Butterfly wings probably work a little different but yeah, sure. Still gotta catch and ride the wind. Might not be good for soaring but I bet you can get some hang-time. How wide are they when you fully spread them out?" she asks, leaning to the side and sneak a peek at Haley's wings.

Haley slid herself out of the booth where she sat and stood on the side of the table to stretch. The wings, which looked structurally a bit more like dragonfly or fairy wings with a faint butterfly like pattern when the light caught them just right, unfolded and spread out to a good five or six feet worth of wingspan.

“Here, let me sprinkle some fairy dust on you, so you can come with me to Neverneverland,” she quipped floating the salt shaker on the table high above Nailah with her TK and shaking a bit of salt down onto her friend.

"Gah!" she exclaims and tries to wave her hands above her head to ward off the salt. She can feel her power tugging at the edges of her awareness with a clear sense of moving just so to catch and avoid every last grain of salt but she shoves it down until it splinters into an endless cascade, leaving her lightly salted by Haley's antics. "You doink, I can already fly!" she laughs, shaking her head to displace most of the salt.

"And you got some decent wingspan going! Especially for your tiny butt. Are they flappy or buzzy? Like... do they catch a lot of air when you beat them or are they like brrrrrrrrt!" she asks, flapping her hands wildly until they blur a little.

“They buzz. I sound like a fucking vibrator, and not some tiny thing either, like one of those fuckers that plug into the wall and could break up a cement patio.“ she smirked.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Ooh, I bet you could get crazy maneuverability. Zip like a dragonfly, sting like a, well, bee still."

[Haley Crusek]

“Hopefully not literally. Though the weird shit is probably out of my system by now and I don’t have a crush on, nor is there currently enrolled, a bee girl or boy,” she smirked, folding her wings back down and taking a seat again.

[Nailah Weaver]

"Leave it to you to mess up your powers by crushing on somebody, unlike us sensible people who do it by giving themselves skull fractures and concussions." she says, rapping her knuckles against her own temple.

[Haley Crusek]

“I should probably swear off dating and become a nun or some shit. I set Tosh’s brain on fire and made me doubt my telepathy even worse, and basically handed him to dog gir—fuck she works here, I need to stop that shit, she’s actually super nice, god I’m a bitch… and then I just gave myself fucking wings crushing on a girl.”

[Nailah Weaver]

"Yeah, well, Tosh's brain was already kind of busted, plus he's a giant dork. And wings are awesome, who cares how or why you got them. They're pretty and they let you fly. Fly better than yanking yourself through the air anyway."

[Haley Crusek]

Haley extended her wings slightly and looked back and down at them, screwing up her face in thought, “I guess they *are* kind of pretty…and I’ve always liked purple…”

[Nailah Weaver]

"See? They're your wings, not anybody else's. And if anybody tells you differently you stab that thought right back into their own head."

[Haley Crusek]

Haley smiled, “See, this is why you’re my bestie.”

“What are you doing for spring break and summer vacation? We should go somewhere. Daddy felt bad his princess was sad so he said use the credit card to book a trip that isn’t like. Super insane.”

[Nailah Weaver]

"Wait, for real? I dunno, I haven't really made any plans yet. Are you sure, Hales? Dang. What were you thinking? Like, full on vacation, sipping drinks at the beach?"

[Haley Crusek]

“Well I sure as shit ain’t goin’ alone, so yeah,” she grinned. “And yes. Beach. Maybe somewhere Mediterranean since we’re closer to that over here.”

[Nailah Weaver]

"You want to get wasted at, like, Ibiza or something, don't you?"

[Haley Crusek]

“….I didn’t even THINK of that. These wings would like sick at a rave,” she grinned.

“But I wanna go somewhere where we’d both have fun. As long as there’s beach and good booze, I’m in.”

[Nailah Weaver]

"It's not like I don't know how to have fun!" Nailah objects with kind of a blatant lie. "We can go party and relax at the beach."

[Haley Crusek]

Haley smirked, “Well. You usually have fun with me, so hopefully some of my talent for that has rubbed off. But yes. Partying and relaxing. Partaxing?”

[Nailah Weaver]

"Sure, but only if you never ever call it that again." she shakes her head slightly.

"Hey, if your Dad is paying for plane tickets... what if we fly instead? Safe whatever a plane costs to spend wherever we're going. Europe is tiny, you can get hella far with a day and a pair of wings!"

[Haley Crusek]

"Oh. My. God!" Haley replied, clearly about to be a voice of reason and say how crazy this plan was.

"You are a GENIUS!!!"

Welp.

Haley proceeded to start drawing an elaborate mood board / travel inspiration thing on her tablet as the two gushed about the fabulous things they'd spend their travel money on instead of airfare.
