Sean was sitting at the bar nursing a drink. Too many nights filled with nightmares made Sean think that maybe a few drinks would make sleeping through the night a possibility.

Wanda took a seat at the bar next to Sean. "A beer please," she said to the bartender. She glanced at Sean, "That's the face of someone who is drinking with a purpose."

"Trying to see if alcohol actually can be a solution for people who aren't chemists," Sean said forcing a smile. "You?"

"Well, alcohol's not a solution, but it will serve a useful purpose in the meantime. I'm Wanda," she said, taking a sip from her glass.

"Quite, and at least its always more fun finding the solution while getting a bit pissed," Sean said, "I'm Sean."

"Don't we all," Wanda said with a chuckle as a breeze blew down the bar and the bartender gave her a dirty look.

Sean chuckled.

"Some do it with help of the X-Gene though," Sean said before taking a sip of his drink.

"Ah," she said, sipping at her own drink. "An interesting twist on things certainly. "People occasionally tossed around that sort of accusation at the Institute, but it never held water."

"Genetic tests usually clarify the issue," Sean said, "They certainly did for me. Made it a bit more confusing at first not being a mutant and still being able throw around lightning."

"Being able to throw around lightning is confusing no matter how you do it," she said with a chuckle. "So what brings you here then?"

"At first it was the imminent threat of magical destruction," Sean said, "Now it's for the same reason most people come here. The whole safe haven to practice using ones abilities and get a perhaps more practical education along the way."

She nodded, "It is good to be somewhere they can handle it if things get out of hand. So what are you studying, other than the mystical forces of the universe?"

"Couldn't really decide on just one, so I'm studying history and environmental sciences," Sean said, "You?"

"Science as well. Trying to figure out what specific one. They suggested something close to meteorology, but that felt too obvious. My family has their own opinions, but since my mother teaches at a university, I believe she is a bit biased."

"Parents do appear quite fond of the whole following in their footsteps thing," Sean said, "Mine want me to take over the family business."

Sean paused for a moment.

"At least we have lots of time to make up our own minds."

Sean smiled and took a long pull of his drink.

"So why did you decide to attend school here?" Sean asked.

"Felt like the appropriate next step. I went to the Institute, then spent a year doing a walking tour of Europe and getting a feel for things. Decided it was time to actually move on."
