"Quite," Sean said, "Haven't had to make contracts with any powerful magical entities yet, but everything I've read has made it sound... complicated."

"Contracts involving physical things are incredibly complicated. I can only imagine what's involved in contracts involving metaphysical things."

"Yeah," Sean said, "Not sure I want to know the punishment for breaking the contract with something that is likely considered a god in several religions."

"Probably on the scale of what I theorize would happen if I tried macro-scale weather manipulation."

"Oh?" Sean asked.

"It's only a theory mind you, but imagine what would happen if someone tried to rewire your blood vessels so that the blood from your hands," she said, reaching out to tap Sean's hand, "flowed down to your feet first before returning to your heart. I can't imagine the results would be good. And weather is as essential to Mother Earth." She sipped on her beer thoughtfully, "I suppose you could make such changes and have things work, but the cascading effect of the manipulations is mind-boggling."

"Ah," Sean said, "One would hope it never becomes necessary to do something on that sort of scale. For me working on too large of a scale might end with me... exploding messily."

"That does have a certain finality to it."

"Consequences with magic are sometimes fairly straightforward," Sean said with a shrug.
