Diego looked around in teenage wonder as he softly padded into the room on feline legs, the tail sticking out of his khaki shorts swaying gently in appreciation.

"Whaaat? They do have a campus bar! Ooh hoo hoo this place... is... awesome!" he whooped with an excited grin.

College was going to be the best thing ever. He just knew it. And he'd show everyone back home the kind of awesome guy they drove away.

He eyed the display bottles behind the bar, pretending to look like an expert, as he walked over to the bar. "I'll... haaave... beer?"

"Good choice," she says to him, serving up a glass of beer. "New?"

"Fresh off the boat," he answered with a nod, "Well, okay, the plane." He picked up the beer but just looked at it as if this was a trap of some kind and his grandmother was hiding somewhere with a wooden spoon, primed for head bopping.

"The drinking police don't come in unless you make an ass of yourself."

"Right," he said before raising the glass, "Bottom's up then." He took a big swallow and suppressed a grimace before coughing. "Wow," he chuckled, "Either my taste buds changed with everything else or I forgot beer was so bitter."

"Yet I want more," he added, sipping his drink.

"A common problem among new drinkers," she laughs, "My name's Tereza."

"Diego Zapata. Friends call me Doctor Z. Well, they don't, but they should."

"Maybe once you've earned a doctorate," she says with a chuckle. "Adjusting to the new place?"

"Did you go to the Institute?" She picks up a glass and begins polishing it.

"Don't I wish," he chuckled ruefully, "Would've been nice not finding fish in my locker."

Tereza makes a face, "That sucks, but not an uncommon story around here."

"The 'rents wanted to try continuing as normally as possible. It didn't work out. But it could be worse right? I mean, my family didn't disown me or anything."

"Yes, that's good at least," she nods, "Family's a rough thing to deal with sometimes."

"There's some training, yeah, but mostly the first step is really wanting to do it, or that's sort of what Miss Kinney told me when I signed up."

"Well I was planning to go into law enforcement before I went all mrowr. Protecting people is kinda the family business. So if I can't do that the traditional way anymore, this feels right."

She gestures and her hand coats in ice, the ice shifting through several different textures before it washes off onto the bar where it forms an amorphous humanoid figure. She hands the figure the glass she's been polishing and it trots off to put it away. "Cryokinetic is the official term, I believe."

"Ha! Sorry. Accidental pun."

"Unless you're Miss Kinney, then," he began as he turned his head towards Nailah. "Whoa! Sphinx! We were earlier and I'm super jealous because oh my God your wings are so cool! and I'm rambling hi I'm Diego and I want your wings whoah that came out weird," he said excitedly without taking a breath until the end.
