"There's got to be a way they all work, aye?"

"But are they all useful?"

"Maybe not for fighting crime, but that's not everything that's useful."

"That's not what I meant. There's people who are just kinda worse off for their mutation..."

"Sorry. It's just... something that gets on my nerves, aye?"

"When I wound up at Muir I was convinced I was the one who was unlucky."

"And maybe you were. And then you found a way to make it work. Not saying you can't feel bad about it cause someone else has it bad or worse..." she says a bit carefully.

"I know I shouldn't be making more of it than you really said."

"It's alright... I mean you're not wrong about how you feel or anything."

"No, but you didn't really mean it that way. I was arguing with someone, but that someone wasn't you."

"Who were you arguing with?"

"...everybody who acted like my life was basically over when I became a mutant."

"That includes me, at one time."

"Shows what they knew. You just rescued someone by stealing millions of pounds from a train. Okay, saying it loud makes it sound way more nefarious than heroic, but my point stands!"

"Technically we just rescued someone who was millions of pounds."

"I'm sure the police would care greatly about that distinction." she chuckles.

"Or at least the fact that we didn't buy a gold-plated SUV with it."

"Well yeah. They're just gonna print some more. We cost them, like, a day of work and in exchange they got a kick-ass story out of it about that time a bunch of mutants robbed them! Win-win!"

"Nobody's come to get me for the aircraft carrier that disappeared, so I guess the headmistress is pretty good at talking her way through things."

"I guess. But that wasn't even your fault, was it?"

"Aye. Just... surreal to think of all the things I've been involved in lately."

"You have no idea how disappointed I am that I missed that one though."

"Well, it was kind of awful, on the whole."

"But also a cross-dimensional adventure. With dinosaurs even!" she points out.

"At least twice we got a ship shot out from under us. I met my... well, I guess 'evil twin' is a bit cliche but someone who might've been me and tried to kill us all. And then towards the end I got impaled."

"Okay, maybe it wasn't all awesome, but you got to fight your evil twin! That's awesome!"

"It's actually kind of disturbing, seeing how you might go wrong."

"But it's not you. That's why they call it an evil twin. That makes you the good one."

"Well it's not like there were labels, aye? The whole world was in a shite situation."

"If she was you but evil then she was an evil twin! Or Doppelgänger. Either way, evil!"

"She was more me but insane."

"Or... moreso, I guess." She mumbles.

"What are you talking about? You're not insane. Come on, there's no way you'd end up as some kind of crazy killer. That wasn't what you coulda been because you are who you are and you don't murder people."

"There's always... similarities you notice. I mean yes, it's distorted. It's like a bloody funhouse mirror. But there's things you recognize, aye?"

"Sam, people look at funhouse mirrors to have a laugh. Cause there's no way you could actually look like th---" It's roughly around this point that something seems to click with here. Sam's perspective on this whole thing, on people in general, must be different. Because she could be them. Look like them, even have their thoughts in her head.

"Oh!" she just says for a moment as she tries to wrap her head around that. "I mean... I don't think anybody else believes you could be that. I sure don't. But... I... think I get it now."

"It's hard not to think about it, sometimes. You know, who you'd be if push came to shove."

"That never really occurred to me. I mean, not like that. To me you're jsut Sam and I just can't see you going all murderous on people. I mean even that Finn guy's still alive."

"I was... tempted. I mean, I thought he'd killed Will at the time."

"I can't even imagine what would have happened to him if that money had gotten out... Think he's just in a really deep sleep?"

"I'm... really not sure. That's why it's probably better if I'm out of there while they work, aye?"

"I'm sure they got it under control."

"Aye, and my temper wouldn't help things one bit."
