"Never too late, so long as you keep trying," Tereza says. "Only too late when you're dead."

“I never said she smacked sense into me,” she smirks. “So how much do you know about me? No sense in repeating things you know.”

"I found out about you and your sister after you escaped. I'd already made my departure, but it's hard not to keep an eye on things."

"It was... during a low point in my life. I didn't much feel like I'd earned being called 'Mother.'"

Tereza nods, "I probably wouldn't have accepted you then anyway. I was... pretty angry at the world. What about now?"

"Now? I'm not sure that's my decision."

"I've got my life together a bit better, though."

"I'd like for you to be a part of my life. It'd be nice to have a parent who gives a damn. But I want you to do it because you want to. Not because you feel like you have to."

"I can't be there all the time, but I can be there."

"Besides, you're about grown."

"Doesn't mean I don't still want a mom," Tereza says with a shrug. "The woman who raised me tossed me to the wolves the instant my powers showed up when I was 11. I was 15 when the Brotherhood broke me out of there. Muir and here are the first *nice* stability I've ever had. I'd like to add to that."

"I'm not saying no, I'm just saying don't expect me to cut the crusts off your sandwiches," she chuckles.

She laughs. "More of a steak woman these days anyway. You can leave the crusts on my sandwiches."

"Some sort of meat is appreciated. Steak is not strictly necessary. I'll warn you though... I eat a lot of food."

Tereza weighs saying something else, but apparently opts not to. "Any contact they make with me will result in some rather more violent contact responses, so hopefully they're aware of that by this point."

"Well, if your heart's set on steak, there's Henri's. Not all that formal, but they're rather... American in their portions, which might suit your mood," she chuckles.

"Maldon's a bit sparse on movies, but we could catch a flick if you don't mind finding out just how I drive on A-roads."

A short while later the two find themselves seated in a somewhat faux-rustic restaurant. At the least it's warm inside and they're not drawing any stares. As promised, the menu indicates the portions are rather generous.

"So has going to university filled your head with scholarly ambitions, or is this more one where they tell you that you'll save the world?"

"I don't think scholarly ambitions was ever going to be my thing, but they try to let those who want to do both. They *try* to tell you there's more than punching bad guys. And for some people, punching bad guys isn't their thing and that's cool too."

"Believe me, this isn't a trick question. I'm just curious. You don't have to have a plan, yet."

"You don't even have to have picked what you want to order yet, but the waiter will be back eventually."
