"Dio is a special case," she says with a chuckle. "It's just... I'm not sure how I feel about all of it."

"Having a strange life can be an asset if you want it to be. Or it can be your little secret if you'd rather."

"It's hard to not want normal, but I'm also fully aware that the ship for normal sailed when I was born."

"I wish I could have made that easier for you. In Russia you're on top as long as you're useful. It took me too long to figure that out."

"Shit happens. We're here now, not there then. I prefer to make the most of now."

She gives the menu one more glance, "Yeah, big steak, medium rare."

"I was so deep in the wolf at that point, I don't even know. I sort of remember this alien device and fighting a dinosaur? Then I was in a Russian forest and my ex-girlfriend found me... which is a whole different issue entirely."

"This particular one is still at the school. She's got some problems my girlfriend and I agreed to help her with. Unfortunately, removing the stick from her ass isn't one of them at the moment."

"She's sweet, but a little wrapped up in her own world. Maybe once the mission is over, we can break her out of that, but it'll sort of depend on how the mission goes."

"She left. Wouldn't tell me where she was going or take me with her. Wouldn't tell me when she'd be back. Didn't find out until she eventually returned that she'd been screwed over by 'family'."

"Yeah," she says. "She's looking for her mom. Her asshole 'relatives' kicked her mom out and then told Viv to go find her. Sam and I agreed to help her and help her deal with her 'relatives' when the time comes."

Tereza chews on her lip for a second as if trying to decide whether to continue to share, but then she shrugs a bit and presses on. "Sam and I have discussed opening up our relationship for her, but like I said, she's been kind of wrapped up in her own problems and any serious discussion of that gets postponed."

"Yeah, I'm aware. Wouldn't be the first time, but... well, the first time was with a girl who was three girls? So I'm not sure that really counts. Needless to say, the only way it'd happen is if everyone was okay with it and willing to communicate a *lot*. And we're not there yet. Maybe after we find her mom and toss her 'relatives' back to the other side."

Tereza thinks quietly for a long moment before asking, "What made you decide to leave the program?"

Re: Warm Reception

"There are... a lot of things you can convince yourself of when life is going your way. When that runs out, they leverage the idea that someone like you can't live on the outside."

"But increasingly, there were two things. One, it became increasingly obvious that their treatment of me wasn't typical for the program. The second is that it became harder and harder to tell myself I was on the side of the angels."
