Good Enough

Tereza looks under the hood of the beat-up car. It's not spectacular *looking* overall, but it runs and its got room for improvement and enough seating for more than two. She sighs and tosses some keys to a guy standing nearby, "Yeah, motorcycle's yours. I'll take the car." As he drives away, she leans against the frame of the garage door and watches the bike go.

"Couldn't fit both of them on the back, eh?" Isolde asks, leaning against the garage pillar.

"Something like that," Tereza sighs, "And I kind of needed a new project that's not going to hurt someone if I screw it up." She looks at the car, "Well, not going to hurt someone within reason. What have you been up to?"

"Healing up. Pulling packmates' fat from the fire."

"I'd say the usual, but I'm not sure that is."

"It's a thing I can certainly appreciate," Tereza says with a genuine smile. "I appreciate what you did during the battle."

"Who was that other one? I thought we had all the redheads accounted for."

"I'm not sure. I'd never seen her before and didn't see her again after everyone started leaving. But since we're on the subject of newbies," Tereza says, taking a deep breath before continuing, "We're going to have a newbie with us next moon."

"Oh I know," Isolde says with a smirk.

"I was just waiting until you got up the nerve to admit it."

"Well, it's not something I'm exactly proud of," Tereza says, but only slightly defensively. "Even if it is one less thing to worry about, in relative terms."

"You just don't like that you slipped."

"Or that you like the idea, after the fact."

"Well, who likes to admit they weren't in control?"

"It's more important to figure out why it happened."

"You can't put all the blame on your wolf, can you?"

"No, and I can't quite blame Sam either, regardless of what influence she, or rather her evil twin, had in the process. Both of us, wolf and myself, were pretty mortified when it happened."

"But there's something about it that feels right, isn't there?"

"Yes and no. To a certain extent, it's nice. But it's not all sunshine and roses and I wouldn't wish that on someone I care about."

"I wouldn't call much we do 'sunshine and roses.'"

Tereza shrugs, "I guess sometimes we do what we have to do and there's not much sense in sugar coating it. I just didn't want to see her hurt."

"Like new," Tereza acknowledges. "You know what I mean though. Would you want Wanda to have to go through this?"

"...I'd be lying if it hadn't crossed my mind."

"But no, I wouldn't."

"So not matter how tickled my wolf is to have another wolf, especially one that I'm so close to, there's always going to be that part of me that knows I inflicted this on her. I'll get past it, but it'll always be there. And I'm not entirely sure that's a bad thing."

"I wouldn't expect you to forget. I haven't forgotten any of mine, even though I might have wanted to forget a few."

"I guess the trick is to make sure it doesn't happen again."

"The trick is to not... push her."

"Because you may not know how yet, but you can."

"I don't see any reason that I would need to... do that at the moment."

"Like it or not, there's someone further down the line from you now. You're strong. Willful. That's double-edged."

"Yes, but the road to me now goes through some territory you might want to detour around."

"She dealt with being both fey and human for a long time. I imagine she might be more adept at balancing it than either of us."

"It's possibly I suppose. I guess we'll have to see. I have the Danger Room set aside for the three of us for those nights. Hoping it will be a bit easier on her than the cells."

"For the first night at least. I know I'm barely contained on that night and it's Viv's first. Sam won't like it, but she'll have to sit that one out. After that, we'll play it by ear. If things are holding, Wanda's welcome as well, but that's up to you."

"...probably better she doesn't see me until the edge is off," she nods thoughtfully.
