Walking through memories

Sean walked with the others into a more secluded part of the grounds. He pulled the memory crystal out of his pocket.

"This will be a bit... strange," Sean said beginning to chant the words that would activate the crystal. It began to glow and then Sean just let it go. The crystal was spinning in the air and the world seemed to spin with it for a moment. The colors of the world seemed to bleed into one another as the projection took over their perception of reality. The color of the memory seemed a bit washed out, but it was there with the many moped riders.

"I dunno about you, but the minute I see someone made out of mannequin pieces or covered in dried blood, I am outta here." Victor muttered softly to Emilie.

"Fortify, Freud." She murmured back with a smirk.

"Soooooo.... Ace Face isn't a real dude? He's like.... A god? A god of Mods?" Emilie speculated, trying to wrap her head around what she was being shown.

"Might be possible they're a spirit made of many other ones," Sean said, "And all of the spirits seem to have drowned and they all bought their mods at that shop."

"So we're sure they all had different bikes?" Victor asked.

"It just doesn't fit the timeline for them to have not had different bikes..." Emilie sighs.

"Have you ever seen anything like this before Sean?"

"Oh, 'cause if it was all the same bike then... that'd be real bad news. Some kinda kelpie bike."

“Hannah,” Sean said, “She has experienced dying multiple times over decades. Not sure why in her case, but maybe a ritual of some kind if this was magical in origin. Like somebody is purposefully murdering these riders in the same way to use their deaths to drive some kind of working. A rather long-term investment if that’s the case.”

"Does she have a connection between her deaths? Like the bikes and Ace Face?"

“Not like this,” Sean said, “I mean to one place and one way of dying. At least as far as I know.”

Sean paused for moment.

“This is just very... uniform. It makes it seem more deliberate really. Unless these mods just regularly die this way all the time all over the country.”

"So if the bike is not a kelpie, then... what, is there a siren or a selkie or something living under the pier? Who hates high-waisted pants?"

"Might be more likely that a person is murdering them," Sean said, "Could be the way they die is what's important. Might be recreating some event. Might be an offering to some kind of fae or other spirit. Might bloody well be both."

"Hmm...

What'd you find Vic?"

"Hmm? Oh, right." Vic had forgotten that he'd only shown his little bit of evidence to Sean. He passed his phone to Em who more than likely already knew what his password was over multiple encounters. The last two pictures showed the postcard, with what looked like the guy they saw in the Vespa's mirror, and the writing on the back.
Jimmy,
Was nice meeting you this summer. Still can't tell Mum the half of what we did together.

Maybe we could see each other again sometime? Remember to write.

"Well... this brings up questions....

Where'd you find it?"

"In a picture frame in the garage, with some other pictures or people with their bikes, stuff like that. Grandpa had it on the wall over his workbench."

"Did you take pictures of the other people on bikes? Perhaps we can compare them?"

Victor was quiet for a moment. "... shit. No, I didn't think we were looking for more than one." Still, he had been looking at the entirety of the wall of pictures when he'd happened upon the man he'd seen before. He tried to focus on any facial features of clothing that he might remember as he stared at the phantoms.

As Vic wracks his brain, the only one of the figures that really looks like anything he saw in the garage is the oldest one. The least-drowned one.

It's maybe a bit more idealized than the photo he saw...

...but if he squints it's a dead ringer for Jimmy.

Victor points at the least drenched man out of all of them, and pointed at him.

"That's him, the one from the picture." His voice got a little quieter as he turned to Sean. "Do we use his name or ask him about Vonnie? Or is that some bad juju?"
