Spin. Thrust. Sweep low. Sweep high. Overhead spin.

Because not every situation called for a bow and he still didn't trust himself with a blade, Chase decided to practice with a retractable bo staff he found in the Point's stash of non-lethal weapons. He had trained with one but the Lotus preferred more lethal weapons. Even with his powers making it feel natural, it was clear he was rusty.

Of course somebody training their martial skills attracted Nailah's attention and she quietly lands off to the side to wait for bit of a natural break in Chase's routine.

"Need a sparring partner?"

After a downward strike, he paused and looked her way.

"Against a precog? Color me intrigued," he smirked, "Got something you can use? The weapons room has more if not."

Nailah charges at Chase, dropping into a slide just before she comes into range of his staff and trying to slip past it to come back up with a shoulder-tackle.

Chase's martial arts training allowed him to turn out of the way and come back around to sweep the staff at her legs, aiming to catch her off-balance. Then again, precognative cat-bird.

It's hard to tell when exactly she's using her precognition. It certainly doesn't seem to protect her from having her leg swept out from under her, falling backwards and catching herself with one hand on the ground.

But then she lets her elbow buckle to go into a roll that carries her behind Chase and her leg kicks up to try and hit his midsection.

Unable to avoid the hit, he moved with the blow to reduce the impact. He used the momentum to whirl around and strike at her.

Now she's definitely using precog-bullshit, right? She still has one hand on the ground when Chase swings his staff around and she catches it in one hand. And instead of trying to block it moves her hand with it, jumping up from the ground, flipping herself upside down over the staff, landing on both feet on the other side of the attack with a surprised grin on her face like she's not entirely sure how she did that herself.

Chase let out an appreciative whistle.

"Okay, that was impressive," he said... even as he fluidly continued the spin into a sweep kick.

"Right?" Nailah is too impressed (and surprised?) by her own awesomeness to react to the kick and she's swept off her feet, landing on her back and wings with a thud.

At least it seems to knock some sense back into her and she rolls to the side to avoid a follow-up and get some room to get back on her feet.

Chase took a couple of steps back and said, "The first thing they drilled into me, besides obedience, so maybe the second thing, was to never let my guard down in a fight. A single distraction can be the difference between life and death."

He idly twirled the staff, moving it from one hand to the other and back again.

She tries to get the back of her hand under the incoming staff to redirect it upwards, which works, but at the same time has the weapon bounce off her elbow in the process, which probably hurt more than just taking it on to the stomach.

"Ffffffudge on a stick!" she 'curses' even as she spins around to deliver a punch to Chase's chest with her left hand.

With a swift motion, he retracted the staff and turned just in time to trap her arm with his free one and re-extended the staff which he used to give her a light bop on the head.

"Almost." she grins. And then she sinks the claws of her trapped hand into the back of Chase's shoulder. His clothes take the worst of it but she definitely breaks skin and would need to just yank on her arm to leave much worse marks.

He released her arm and stepped back.
