“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world."

The Estate's meticulously kept gardens, including a hedgemaze that students have occasionally described as "sadistic" and a sizable rose garden. Benches in shaded spots are plentiful, and the gardens are popular to study in on pleasant days. The nearby stables are still maintained with a number of well-heeled equines.

“Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world."

Postby Basil Benson » Sun Apr 16, 2017 7:12 pm

There was a reason there were rumours about the invisible boy. Basil had accidentally on purpose 'walked in on' a lot of behavior around campus that was embarrassing, illegal, or otherwise considered private business. He knew the places these things happened consistently, he just wasn't the sort to tattle on people, and in return he hoped they'd stop spreading rumours about him being a voyeur. Basil had infinite , very empty hopes like that.

So when Basil left Colette to look after her room mate in the infirm due to the nasty business of today, he knew exactly where he was heading to find what he thought he needed right now (being that his other vices were ill timed and not an option at the moment.)

Marching around the back of the stables, he found the usual group of kids smoking.

"I need one." He stated, more demanding than asking.

"Fuck you rich kid." The only one holding a pack stated. "Gimme a dollar."

"I... Don't have a dol- have you realized yet you're in my country, I'm not in yours?!"

That really didn't seem to get him anywhere, as the unruly youth looked away to go back to talking to her friends. Begrudgingly he dug into his pocket and found the lowest denomination of bill in his pocket, a twenty pound note. He shoved it at her rather violently.

"Give. Lighter too."

She looked at it for a second and knowing her pack and cheapo lighter were nearly empty anyways, was happy to trade.

"Pleasure doing business with you." She replied, and motioned for her friends that they should leave.

Basil was left alone now to brood and smoke the first cigarette he'd had in nearly six months.

He moved to the side of the barn where he can see comings and goings out of the medical buildings, sat down in the grass, and lit up.

So much for on the wagon.

Shari, looking a little bit worse for wear with a big bruise on her neck and a bunch of minor scratches and abrasions, is kind of nervously pacing around as people head for the infirmary, or in some cases, are moved by the staff. She knows these people are professionals and she'd just be in the way, but she also feels responsible for all this on some level. Enough that she's forgetting to feel anxious about what people might think of her walking around in her 'original' shape, though she's getting some dubious looks. Mainly from people who didn't see the fighting and only heard about it and the gawking crowd is mostly over where the fighting happened anyway though. Once everyone is taken care of she just kinda hangs around, hesitant to actually go inside, because that somehow feels like she'd be intruding. So instead she sits on the railing of the small raised area in front of the entrance, pondering.

Basil noticed the confused looking green girl standing outside the infirmary.

As it stood, Basil knew only the vaguest of details about what had happened today, only that they all relived it twice, and it had something to do with a thing called a Skrull.

But Basil had no idea what that was, and with the anarchy at the moment no one had time to explain it, so he didn't have any reason to suspect the green girl on being one.

The longer she lingered, the more uncomfortable he became, concerned perhaps she had a concussion or some such thing.

Sighing, Basil stood and moved, coming up behind her uncharacteristically quiet like to considered the medical building with her.

"You alright? " the currently invisible man asks.

"My reputation precedes me." He laughs, taking a drag from the cigarette. Surely, that's the only explanation for why this stranger would know him.

As the smoke billowed from his mouth, it molded a pattern of a face she'd seen before but was currently hiding for whatever reason.

He noticed the bruise on her neck.

"Hope you gave whoever did that a matching one." He indicated to her neck with the cigarette hand what he was referring to.

"Someone else did. Kinda." she says, exerting some effort to shift the color of the bruise to match the rest of her skin, but it's not perfect and obvious she's just trying to hide it, not healing it. "He's done much worse than that and now it finally bit him in the ass."

Basil was not yet picking up on what Shari was laying down.

"If one of the other students did that to you, you don't have to let them pick on you like that. I'm sure the headmistress doesn't tolerate such things." He replies, thinking maybe someone was singling her out thanks to her appearance.

Basil paused for a moment as things fell into place.

"Ah, so you're the friendly one."

He turned to face her properly in his somewhat flamboyant manner, and stuck out his hand for a shake.

"Basil Benson, even though it already feels like you know me." His voice has a touch of amusement to it.

Basil put his hand away in his pocket, going back to smoking quietly. The silence he left was pregnant with anticipation of why he was so quiet.

On the exhale, he commented -

"Joke's on you then. You're only half right.' - in a teasing tone.

"It's not the money that bothered me. I would have given you more had you been sincere."

Another dramatic pause while he smoked-

"Or the attempted theft, if we're being completely frank with each other. Though the thing you tried to steal is legitimately worthless to anyone but me. I wasn't just making that up so you'd give it back to me."

"I suppose you did at that." He laughed, and noticed his cigarette was spent. Sighing, he threw it to the ground, stomped it out, then plucked it up in the handkerchief from his pocket so he could trash it later.

He looked in the pack he'd gotten, noticing three more. 'Sod it' he thought to himself, pulling out another between his teeth then shaking one out to offer it to Shari.

"Traditions can become ruts, paths too deep and narrow to take the cart through any further. There comes a time when ruts must be filled in.

Of course, in this case it was filled with burning and mayhem which is not always advisable but breaking the trend can be a good thing.

Granted, you probably should know that what's coming out of my mouth is a bit ' do as I say not as I do.' " He laughed awkwardly.

Despite pleading to be allowed to stay, and some difficulty in being removed (have you ever tried to shove jam?), Colette was eventually made to leave the infirmary where her roommate was being tended to. The place was over-filled with injured, they didn't need an uninjured girl taking up more space. She turned to head back to her room when she saw her boyfriend speaking with an unfamiliar face; she approached them somewhat sullenly as she was still worried over Chisaki's well-being.
