Tereza was wandering the streets of Maldon, window-shopping for the most part. She was carrying a couple of bags and obviously seemed to be on some sort of Christmas shopping adventure.

Wandering vaguely in the other direction came a mess of paint-stained clothes and a beret, all wrapped around the frame of Rose Dashwood. Seeing someone who, let's face it, looked a little more interesting than the General Populace of Maldon, Rose started making her way over in that general direction.

The site of the paint-stained individual coming her direction makes Tereza pause and she eyes the oncoming person curiously.

Rose waved. "Hi there! You're from The School, aren't you?"

How she managed to capitalize "the school" remains much a mystery, but still.

Tereza eyes her for a moment, but apparently decides there's no harm in confirming it. "What gave it away?"

"Well, I mean, look around us, right? A certain sense of je no sais quoi missing, yeah? You don't exactly look like you grew up here."

"Some people might say I never grew up anywhere," she quips, "But Maldon is on the quiet side. That's not all bad, mind you."

"Young at heart, hrm?" Rose said, misinterpreting. "That's a good attitude to carry through life. Good for you!

Maldon may be quiet, but it can be a bit confusing to someone who -- theoretically, mind you -- has only been here for 48 hours or so. I'm afraid I'm quite lost, and you're the first person I've seen around who looks like they know what they're doing. Would you mind terribly if I tagged along with you for a bit?"

"I'm Dashwood. Rose Dashwood," she said, sticking a hand out to shake. "Brand new as of a couple days ago, yes indeed! First time off campus here."

Tereza shifts her bags a bit and takes Rose's hand, shaking it. "Nice to meet you, Rose. Sometimes it's a little hard to remember to leave campus. They have so much there. But there's only so much Christmas shopping you can do online." She pats the bags. "I was just thinking about heading to the Rose & Crown for a drink."

"Looks like you've got enough for half-a-dozen people in there," Rose laughed. "Very impressive. You can tell me all about it as we go get that drink."

"Mostly my girlfriend and her family," she says, leading the way towards the pub. "Nothing like meeting them for the first time at Christmas."

"Well, I think there's quite a few people staying around, so you certainly won't be by yourself." She opens the door and follows Rose in. "Things have been a bit crazy lately, but hopefully they'll stay calm."

"It has its moments," she shrugs, finding a seat at the bar where the bartender seems to know her and begins heading their way.

"Oh geez, I didn't mean to do that! You probably get that pun all the time."

"Not as much as you'd think. Which is a little weird now that I think about it." She holds up two fingers and the bartender starts pouring two beers.

Rose eyed the bartender and her drink a little dubiously.

"I guess those sorts of jokes become passe when everyone has a mutation. So that's nice."

"I'm palletakinetic. I can control and manipulate paint," she said, a swirl of red floating above her bag and swirling in the air before diving back in.

"Nothing wrong with a little hubris on occasion. Life has a way of balancing the scales on that." The beer itself wasn't bad, mostly nice flavor with just enough alcohol to be noticeable.
