Tereza parks the XU car in a public car park and hops out, glancing over at Isolde. "So what do you need that we can go look for?"

"I need a damn drink, but maybe it's too early for that."

"So long as you don't care about people looking at you funny and I don't know why you would," she laughs, "Rose and Crown it is then."

"I think you've found out by now how much drink it takes for one of us."

"Oh, I know. It's really frustrating. My go to used to be vodka, but it doesn't really serve it's purpose anymore."

"Maybe you should try anyway," she chuckles. "Find out some things about yourself."

"Buying a small vat of vodka could get expensive," she says as they head into the Crown. Tereza waves at the bartender and holds up two fingers as they approach the bar.

"I more meant stronger stuff, but do what you like."

"Ah," she says as they enter. "I remember this place."

"Best bar in town, or the friendliest to us at any rate," she says as the bartender sets two beers in front of them.

"While I remember it, perhaps I should be grateful it doesn't remember me."

"Eh. We had our disagreement outside, so they probably never saw you. Unless you're referring to something earlier," she asks, raising an eyebrow.

"No, no, you were privy to most of my mayhem-making in Maldon," she smirks.

"It's a necessary question with you," she chuckles, taking a sip of her drink.

Out of the corner of her eye, Isolde thinks she sees a couple of guys watching them, but if she turns to look, they're having an animated conversation about the latest continental football scores.

"Friends with the regulars here?" She asks, sipping her beer.

"Usually. Used to tend bar here before," she holds up her hands, showing the slightly glowing veins.

"Why did you stop? I thought this was a friendly place."

"It is, but it was a thing. My appearance got a bit unsettling and it was easier just to take a job at the bar on campus. Then, about the time I was thinking about trying to come back, someone had to go and bite me and we're still working through that."

"I could say something pithy like 'life is never what we plan,' but I don't want to start a bar fight with you yet."

"Operative word being 'yet'," she chuckles. "Do I owe you a fight at this point?"

"Do you?" She cocks her head.

"Besides, looking unusual is something I've been used to. When I was young, I was too tall. Some bad attention. Some good attention that led to bad attention."

"Then later, I was much too tall."

"And then you decided to start making your own attention. And I only think I owe you a fight if you insist on being alpha."

"There are only two of us."

"There are only two of us, right?"

"I haven't bitten anyone, no, but there's a wolf shifter at the school that probably wouldn't mind being in a pack. Then there's various others that she," she taps her forehead, "considers 'pack'."

"And you feel like you need to lead it."

Tereza considers the statement-question for a long moment as she takes a thoughtful drink of her beer. "If you're looking for a simple answer, then yes. If you're looking for something more complicated, I feel responsible for it. That comes with a certain amount of leading, sure, but it's a more complicated feeling than that."

"If it's a pack to you, that becomes complicated right away because not all of them are wolves."

"Of course not. And they don't all quite understand 'wolf', but they all have a concept of 'pack', even if they don't call it that." She looks Isolde in the eye, her irises holding a significant amount of yellow, "And I think, for the you and me, 'pack' is more important than 'wolf'."

"They're not wolves. You are. You're setting a high bar for them."

"And you are underestimating them."

"I'm judging by the way you talk about them. Do you want a pack or a flock?"

"They're not sheep," Tereza says, maybe a bit too defensively.

"Are they people to protect, or are they people who have your back?"

Tereza mulls that for a moment, "They're both, but I think you and I have different ideas of what 'protect' means. I tried 'protecting' my girlfriend, in the sense I think you mean it, and that wasn't the right way to go about it. They have my back and I have their backs. If I step up to defend them, it's not because I think they're fragile or need 'protection' as you put it, but because that's a part of what having their back means."

"You need to be certain of what they are to you, because whatever that is your wolf will magnify it."

"Let's not jinx me yet," she says with a chuckle. "So you thought about my offer?"

Out of the corner of her eye, Isolde caught one of the men from earlier making some sort of subtle gesture at them as if to indicate the two women to his companion.
