"I'm not sure if I should be impressed that you tried, or tell you that if you spend all my money on a great big turnip in the country that our relationship is over."

Colette shrugged. "It was part of ze collection at my library. Watching ze jokes about ze French was a little bit... meta?"

"I take it you haven't seen Holy Grail then."

"Yes. It seems your comedies require at least one French joke as a foundation, or else ze whole house of cards comes crashing down."

"We've lost our taste for war, but not our taste for mockery."

"And really, after a zousand years of zrowing rocks at each ozer across ze gulf, I suppose I should have a zicker skin." Colette grinned. "It is like ze old friends who insult each ozer, yes? Once adversaries, now ze closest of friends, making light of zeir former animosity.

"I have to drop out of my literary class, I am beginning to sound like some of ze more pretentious students on ze campus."

Basil giggled.

"You can sound as pretentious as you like. Just so long as it's just around me."

"I will keep zat in mind." Colette sighed, and clung to Basil's arm.
