The Princess and the Protester

Though many students might prefer going to London, Maldon provides closer amenities for those without a car or unwilling to pay for a cab. Several pubs are available, though the Rose and Crown is notable for having been where Excalibur spent a good deal of their downtime. Also of note is the Plume Library, home to many rare books.

"Mmm. So simple, in theory," Katarina shrugged. "You'd be surprised how....complicated that can be in practice.

Also, you have some cheese on your chin, there."

"Oh trust me, I have an idea. Even when there is change, things still need improvement. Did you know that in Genosha there is an entire caste system based on mutant powers? It's borderline Animal Farm."

Jez pardoned herself and wiped her chin with a napkin, taking a couple of tries.

"Yes indeed. We find the Genoshan system to be duhumanizing, and generally not a model w...anyone should particularly ascribe to," she said, catching herself again.

"Oh, it's okay if you use the royal 'we'." Jez offered, unaware of how accurate the term was.

"But you're totally right. I was lucky enough to develop a mutation that they found 'useful'. But you can't just treat people that way. They come to Genosha in the hope of finding a better life for themselves, not to end up in the same situation but in a nicer climate. But so long as the country values isolationism I don't see things changing without... well I'd rather not think about that. I'm glad they've started to take the first steps in forming relations with other countries, in part because it'll force them to stop ignoring the problem lets outsiders see it."

Yup, she was a Pol-Sci student, couldn't stop talking about it for 5 minutes.

"And, as an island, you would think they would have less trouble with outsiders than other countries," Katarina added in. "It should allow for them to be more open than others have the chance to be. Sadly, they seem...uninterested.

Though the presence of Aiden here is not a bad start in the opposite direction."

"Exactly. Baby steps. It's important to recognize their efforts, but not to forget there's a lot of ground to cover yet." Jez initially had suspicions about ulterior motives for Aiden's arrival, but eventually dismissed them as her thinking herself more important than she actually was.

The nachos were about three-quarters finished before their burgers arrived, the waitress setting down their milkshakes in a couple of adorable retro glasses. Jez visibly swallowed at the sight of a real burger; not some kind of McDonald's attempt, this was the real deal.

"Oh wow, this looks amazin', thank you!" She couldn't contain her excitement.

"So, how American are these, on a scale of 1 to 10? Are they going to invade us for oil anytime soon?" Katarina teased.

"Well, it certainly LOOKS the part... but I don't want my snobby elitism to tarnish your tasting. Please, indulge yourself." Jez held off on biting into her burger just yet, dipping a fry into her milkshake and having that before munching on some onion rings, getting a nice little pool of ketchup ready for the fries she didn't want to have strawberry flavour.
