Sunken Ships and Cracked Anchors

The Ship and Anchor pub had been vandalized in the night.

Windows had been smashed. Letters had been removed from the sign and rearranged to spell "PRAT". Much of the bar itself had been demolished, broken bottles of booze making a right mess inside. The pinball machine had been overturned and wrecked, left cracked face down on the floor.

On the door, someone had spraypainted a crude double-helix, with an "X" in a circle sprayed on top of that.

A couple days later...

The pub is still closed, but repairs are being made. The windows have been replaced and inside most of the mess has been cleared away. The door still bears the faded double-helix, too resilient to be scrubbed away and waiting to be painted over. In the fading light of the evening a shadow falls over the symbol on the door as someone stops in front of it, soon to be joined by three more.

"Ah, even the model community for coexisting can't escape the embers of resentment." The man's voice has an edge to the tone of amusement as he speaks. "Let's be sure it won't go so easily ignored."

One of the other figures nods and lifts her hand, accompanied by the sound of chains moving. The hand is completely bereft of color, greyscale skin almost blending into the twilight of dusk. One sharp fingernail pushes into the wooden door with casual ease and begins to move through the wood like it is nothing, carving a gouge into it that traces the fading symbol of mutant pride.
