Where the Streets Have No Name

[Narrator]

One entire street of Malden was gone.

In it's place was a bustling modern street, with tall buildings with floating electric signs hovering over the sidewalk. People walked along, muttering in sotto voices, as they went about their business, fading in and out and vanishing when they reached the edge of the dimensional zone. Voices called out from holographic ads on the sides of buildings, urging people to buy products or stay tuned for more news.

It was a commercial street -- a conveinence store, a newsstand, a restrauant, a clothing stores, things like that. But this was clearly from the Malden of the future.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear walked up to the seeming edge of the occurrence, reaching out, before pulling her arm back.

“Careful, Byrna.. scope things out first..”

She gazed around, intrigued with the scenery she had only seen the like of at Epcot Center.

[Narrator]

You would expect a situation like this to have drawn attention, but not so much -- people from THIS time zone seemed to vanish when they approached the dimensional ripple, while people from THAT time zone vanished as they approached the Maldon area.

This did not seem to bother anyone in particular.

[Byrna Cooper]

“Do they not see the border?” She wondered, curious why no one else seemed perturbed.

[Narrator]

They apparently did not, and at least the people from the current time were appearing on the other end of the street without much problem.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear picked up a small rock, and flipped it casually into the expanse.

[Narrator]

It traveled through, normally.

[Robin Stanton]

And then a head pops across the barrier, impossibly long neck disappearing across the barrier as the young woman looks to and fro, including looking back at where her neck just kind of ends in mid-air.

"Haha. Trippy."

[Byrna Cooper]

“Careful there. I’d suggest in or out, maybe out is safer.”

Bear took a step back, observing the somewhat familiar being.

[Robin Stanton]

"Oh hey, Auntie B!" the woman says as the rest of her slips past the barrier and her neck assumes a more regular length.

"Pretty crazy out today, huh?" she seems oblivious to the fact that Bear looks much younger than she should . Probably a side-effect of growing up around shapeshifters, ageless goddesses and the likes.

[Byrna Cooper]

“Do.. do I know you?” Bear asked, taking a closer look.

[Robin Stanton]

"Are you pulling my leg? And why's Kebabs² called Kebabs Galore?"

[Byrna Cooper]

“It’s always been... never mind. What’s your name again?” Bear asked, a little hesitantly.

[Robin Stanton]

"I'm Robin. Pleased t' meetcha, I guess." she chuckles.

[Byrna Cooper]

“Pleased to meet you too, Robin.. any idea what this is? I’m a little out of my element here-i don’t think throwing a ball at it will work..”

[Robin Stanton]

"Not sure, but I'm thinking spacetime reality warping non-sense. Where I'm from, I've known you since I was little."

[Byrna Cooper]

“Are you really my niece? That raises a lot of not so groovy questions I need to ask my mom..”

[Robin Stanton]

"Not by blood. You're just really good friends with my parents. Enough to tolerate babysitting me." she grins.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear looked for features she might recognize, but was coming up a blank.
That was probably par for the course, given the nature of Robin’s abilities.

“Who’s your mom, Robin?” She finally asked.

[Robin Stanton]

"Sara Stanton, though she'd tell you I'm taking more after my dad in my reckless disregard for human shapes."

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear laughed happily.

“Will? Your father is Will?”

[Robin Stanton]

"Ah, so there is a version of him bouncing around here." she grins.

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear nodded, with a warm smile.

“I don’t think there’s much I can do here at the moment.. we should head back to the school.”

[Robin Stanton]

"But... kebabs. Dimensional kebabs!"

[Byrna Cooper]

“Okay, one pita of your choice. *then* back to the school.”

[Robin Stanton]

Robin dashes off and not much later comes out of holding a kebab with each hand and her mouth comically full as she chews what one might strongly suspect is an entire third meat-filled flatbread.

"Ohmkah, et's oh."

[Byrna Cooper]

Bear smiled and shook her head as they headed back.

“One, not one per hand and orifice.”

[Robin Stanton]

"Pff!" Robin says as she begins to shift, scooping up Bear in the passenger seat as the rest of the pink Cadillac takes shape around her and the two drive off towards the University.
