After some hesitation at the school gate, Leo successfully fought his initial fears and the pair arrived in town. On the street he was unusually quiet and watchful, noticing everything... especially the stares. No amount of expectation would have made it hurt any less and it showed plainly on his face. And some anger too.

Not really sure what else to do but to try and distract his friend, Ainsley piped up with.

"So what sort of trouble are we looking to get into Mate?"

"I didn't really think that far ahead. Getting myself out here was most of the plan. There isn't much to do here aside from parks and a few rinkydink museums. Though my mom would have liked those."

"Then let's go to a museum! I don't mind learning things."

"Okay," he said, taking out his phone and running a search.

"We've got... military history, military aviation, a Museum of Power with old machines and stuff, an art gallery, and assorted local history museums."

"Art perhaps?

I don't want to get too smart."
He joked.

"Figures you'd pick art," he said with a snort that could either be amusement or an internalized eye-roll.

"I'm okay with looking at planes if you prefer." He replied with a shrug.

"No, no, art's fine. I could probably use some culture."

"Assumin' they let me in the door... or I fit in the door."

"It'll be fine! We'll make a better door." Ainsley quipped.

He smiled at that. "A curiously me-shaped door," he grinned as he led the way.

"So what kind of art do you like?" Ainsley asked, curious.

"Besides my attempts at sculpture? Abstract stuff, I guess," he shrugged, "Maybe landscapes. Like, fantasy ones. And deserts."

"Nope!" he chuckled. "And with all this black fur, I hope I never do."

"Technically, a desert doesn't have to be hot, just lacking in rainfall. There are polar deserts too. "

"That's... not really better. But easier on me than before, I suppose. Not that I want to find out."

"Somewhere with a more reasonable temperature range."

"No. Just not the extremes."

"Okay, my turn. If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?"

"Nah, anime's fine. It probably would be a fun place to go."

"There's a lot of cool things about Japan.

Like the food. And the music. The clothes....

I dunno probably other things."
Ainsley replied, grinning.

"And you'd rock the ninja look. Well, maybe more Naruto than an actual ninja."

"Yeeeaaa, but that's why Naruto suffers. I'm really more into Kakashi than Naruto. He's the only character that's even remotely close to an actual ninja."

"I meant the show but yeah, Naruto is a terrible ninja. Pretty much the opposite of stealthy. And an idiot. Why are all the main characters in those shows idiots?"

"Well... If I had to guess, idiot protagonists are more relatable. The average person isn't a genius, so it's an easy out to make the hero a dumb shite. Then you feel like a superior to them. Or at the very least an equal."

"I try, anyway," he smiled. But it was clear that somewhere deep down he still didn't believe he was particularly good at anything.

He pointed to his mane. "Red."

"Favorite animal?"
