Sept 12th - 'Mutants Need Not Apply'

As the weeks past by since the beginning of the semester Alex was becoming more and more aware of his thinning bank account. It was going to happen eventually, he was going to need a job. Unfortunately that meant leaving the safety of the campus and going out into a town that has shown to dislike mutants in general. Still, he was sure someone in Maldon would hire him. It was just a matter of looking and meeting people face to face.

So he started with the shops and convenience stores, asking if they were hiring and if he could get an application. Hoping against hope that they wouldn't come to the conclusion that he must be with XU because of his American accent. No matter how much he loved the university, he didn't need it to be revealed that he was a mutant right away. Though, previous trips downtown proved that he couldn't keep it hidden for long.

Alex looked over at Carlos and shrugged. "Yeah, a bit. Job searching sucks." So far every place he went to figured out he was a mutant and that pretty much killed every chance he had to get a job.

"It's more like a half board. Which is fine but with the way my mutation works...I need more than that. And then there's clothes, school supplies, books, and a million other smaller expenses. Plus I really should be putting more in my savings just in case. There's a lot to pay for."

"I had a job back home. I'm perfectly qualified for a part-time job. But..." He glances over at the shop he had just stepped out of. "The moment that they figure out I'm from Xavier's they clam up."

"I don't, not really, not unless they ask. I think it's my accent. I sound American and why is Maldon getting an influx of American's? Xavier's. You can see it in their eyes when the idea clicks into place."

"Hunting? You've gone hunting?" That was something he was familiar with. Honestly he hadn't thought anybody at Xavier else had, Carlos certainly didn't seem the type.

"Where to begin. So this was about two, three years ago. I was camping with my uncle and his buddies up in the Rocky Mountains. A get in touch with nature sort of trip, you know. It was only for a week, but I kept getting this urge to just go into the woods. Like something was calling me. One night I was woken up by it and...did. It felt like sleep walking."

"So I walk and walk and it felt like I was walking all night. And I must have been because by the time I snap out of it, it's daylight and I have no clue where I was. I don't have a jacket or anything really. I was lucky to have my shoes. I try to find my way back with no luck, so by the time evening rolls around I just hunker down and hope someone will find me. But later that night it happens again and it felt like I was getting closer to the source. It was weird, like I could feel the vibration in the air. And I...god, I probably sound like a nut case going on about this. I don't even know."

"I did...I don't even know if I believed what I saw. It looked like a bear, but not the normal kind. It was huge, white, and glowing with horns and it looked like plants were growing on it or around it. It stared right at me for the longest time, I was mesmerized. After that, I must have blacked out, because the next thing I know rescue worker is standing over me, asking if I'm alright."
