I2: First Public Outing That May or May Not Be a Date

Onyx walks alongside Nailah through Downtown Maldon. She probably should have been looking for someplace to eat, but she was just sort of enjoying walking with Nailah instead.

"It feels strange to be in a town without being on patrol," Onyx admits. "Strange, but nice."

"Hey, if there's trouble we can always step in anyway. We're just not looking for it." she says. Unlike Onyx Nailah is looking for a place to eat, mainly because she feels strangely nervous about being on a maybe-date and that gives her something to focus on.

"Hmm... I like Mexican, but I dunno if they have that here. And I kinda feel like trying something new. There, what about that one?" she asks, pointing at a Greek restaurant.

"Great, let's go then." she smiles and grabs Onyx' hand to pull her along into the restaurant.

They don't have to wait long until a waiter comes up to them. She glances at Nailah, then at Onyx' mask and furrows her brow ever so slightly.

"Hi. We'd like a table for two please." Nailah says and the frown on the waitresses face deepens a little.

"Alright. Follow me." she says and leads them past a bunch of empty tables and to one in the back near the bathrooms.

"Perhaps she though we would prefer being in the back?" Onyx suggests. She sounds like she doesn't believe it though.

"They have been going well," Onyx says. "I am having some difficulties with my literature classes, but my other training is going very well."

"Eh..." she says, making a so-so gesture with her hand. "They're going okay, I guess. Lots of stuff to learn. I should be getting a little more sleep." she chuckles.

"Like, you're all dark and mysterious so I was wondering, since I can't hide super-well anyway with my wings and all, maybe I could wear something bright. Like... a white dress with some gold trim. And maybe a gold tiara, but I dunno if that would be too tacky..."

"I grew up in a place where that is very difficult," Onyx says. "I lo--I like that you are like that."

Onyx fiddles with a straw, looking embarrassed and nervous.

Because you grew up around that and you didn't just do the same thing. You did the hard thing and tried to be better. That's why I admire you and why I force myself out of bed, because I wanna be like you. I wanna have the strength to do those kind of things, you know. To be... I dunno. Steadfast, I guess?"
