I2DT: Follow-Up Date

Onyx exits from a store, carrying a bag. Honestly, she was finding shopping wasn't nearly as fun without Nailah. And it didn't help that the bad feeling she had was practically screaming at her now. Something was wrong. She just couldn't spot it.

She pretended to look in another window as she watched the reflection for anything suspicious.

Meanwhile Nailah, in civilian clothes instead of her superhero outfit, is crawling along the roof of the house on the opposite side of the street, screening the people and the cars for any signs of suspicious activity. She taps her earpiece like they'd been shown. "I haven't seen anything yet."

Onyx fakes scratching her ear, "Me neither. Wait..."

A familiar car parked across the street. The driver cut the engine, but appeared to be talking on his phone. The car was an older model with local plates, nothing particularly suspicious.

"That's it."

"The blue car? H467FNK?" Nailah asks, hurrying along the roof to read the license plate and maybe catch a glimpse of the driver through the windshield.

"Yes," Onyx says, she tried to subtly scan the perimeter.

The driver was a young man, mid 20's, talking on his cellphone. He didn't appear to be watching Onyx.

"He's just... talking on the phone right now. Try heading down the street and around a corner, I'll keep an eye on him."

Onyx slowly and casually made her way around the corner, pausing at a window once she was out of sight.

The driver wasn't paying any attention.

"Is he following?" Onyx asks.

"Doesn't look like it. He's just sittin' in his car, talking on his phone. Maybe he's letting the next person know where you went so they can switch things up on us? You know, instead of having just one person follow you everywhere all the time."

"You don't think so?" she asks as she looks for a path along the roofs to take her to the street Onyx turned into, looking to avoid taking flight in case someone does look up.

Onyx stays silent, considering her options for a moment.

"I am going to confront him, ma'am," Onyx says, turning and walking towards the car quickly.

"If you would like, ma'am," Onyx says. She jumps over a car and into the street, charging towards the car.

The driver starts to get out. He looks confused and is still holding his phone, "Wha--?!"

And Onyx punches him, knocking the phone out of his hands.

Nailah jumps down from the roof with open wings, circling through the air as Onyx punches the man. She seems to have it under control well enough so she's in no particular hurry to land. In fact, Onyx seems to have it under control almost too well, surely someone shadowing her should be able to put up more of a fight than this...

There didn't appear to be anyone. Also, the driver was crumpled on the ground. His face was red and there were tears in his eyes.

Ever get a really bad feeling that something had gone horribly wrong?

Onyx grabs the man, tapping into her enhanced strength to haul him up and throw him onto the hood of the car. "Why are you following me?"

Nailah finally sets down on the ground on the sidewalk near the car.

"Uhm... Onyx..."

The man blubbers, "I don't know who--I never---Who are you, lady?"

"Do not lie to me!" Onyx says, slamming him into the hood again. "Who do you work for?"

"The bank!" the man yells. "I'm a f'king cashier!"

They were starting to attract a sizable crowd of curious onlookers.

"Uh, Onyx, I think this... Uhm, I don't think he was actually following you." Nailah meekly points out as the pieces fall into place and she realizes what happened.

"He is lying!" Onyx snaps at Nailah. She twists his arm, pulling his hand into the air. The man screams in pain.

"These," Onyx says, pointing to the calluses on his hand. "They are from practice with a heavy blade."

"I played lacrosse in university, you psychopath!"

"Onyx, I think he's saying the truth. He didn't really seem like he was even looking at you. He was just talking on his phone..." she tries to reason with her. This outburst is kind of scaring her with how firmly Onyx seems to be clinging to her view of the situation.

Onyx glares at Nailah, finally she lets go of the man's arm. Gasping, he scrambles away from the two, cradling his hand like it's broken.

Onyx turns away from Nailah. She grips her hands tightly into fists.

"You..." Onyx starts to say something and then stops. Instead, she storms into a nearby alleyway

Onyx jumps and grabs the fire escape, scrambling quickly up the side of the building. Before long, she's crouched on roof, glowering.

Nailah, significantly slower, follows her up to the roof, plopping herself down next to her.

"Hey... Uhm... You sure scared the crap out of that guy, huh?" she tries to joke.

Go to Onyx's room. Get the chip off her desk. Take the chip to Ms. Kinney.

Onyx nods, rubbing her face with her hand. She takes a deep breath.

"We should interrogate the local criminals," Onyx says. "See if anyone has been offering money for strange jobs lately."

Don't do that.
