Time for a Last Stand

Though many students might prefer going to London, Maldon provides closer amenities for those without a car or unwilling to pay for a cab. Several pubs are available, though the Rose and Crown is notable for having been where Excalibur spent a good deal of their downtime. Also of note is the Plume Library, home to many rare books.

Riddled with bullets, Will fell to his knees in the street, crawling for the nearest sewer drain.

Off in the distance Madame Hydra and X-23 seem to be grappling amidst a cloud of green gas. They go crashing through a shop window, their brawl continuing out of sight.

Meanwhile the Hydra jet in the air is being kept at bay by erratic winds constantly diverting it back up into the thick clouds.

Among the chaos of the people pouring out of the tank, Ashlie climbs into the driver's seat of the truck.

"Hang on, Tosh. And get ready to deploy the device once we're near the time portal." she calmly informs him before putting the metal to the pedal to the other metal and taking the truck down the road among a spray of small rubble being kicked up by it's wheels.

Meanwhile, at the gate, a pair of thick vines burst from the ground on either side. One swung at the soldiers while the other grabbed at the explosive charge to throw it away from the door. The vines had hands.

Emilie was so involved in attempted skull crushing she hadn't noticed Will had been tagged.

Shoving off one of the assailants bearing down on the school by bringing up her shield between them and her, she rushed to Will to bring him under her bubble before someone else got the bright idea to try to finish him off then tightened it smaller around them for density. Will was still capable of making his escape down into the sewer if he so wished, but in a less harassed fashion.

ASHLIE

ASHLIE was able to drive the truck quite effectively, people diving out of the way as they fired shots passing by. The truck was armored, though, so they would be able to burst through the lines.

SHANE
The LAST thing the soldiers at the gate were expecting were vine-hands. The explosive...well, exploded...but it was harmlessly sent into the air, not causing any damage, except to people's ear drums.

"I'm fine," Will growled. "Stop...the baddies."

Ashlie takes what amounts to a 3 dimensional snapshot of the street and then keeps her head down, disregarding any stray Nazi troops as she navigates the rubble and general mayhem at uncomfortable speeds. Hoping no errant shots are going to hit their contraption she heads straight for the time portal where more troops are rallying.

"Twenty meters until the fields overlap." Ashlie shouts at Tosh on the back of the truck. "We should most definitely not be moving for this but I don't think they're leaving us much choice. Engage the temporal disruption field in three... two... one..."

The machine chugged to life, twisting and bending time and space. It found the tear in space and time caused by Hydra's plot and started trying to stitch together the diverse and broad fabrics of the space-time continuum, undoing the clumsy and hacky attempts to violate chronal continuity that had been dreamed up in a German lab in the 1930s.

It was just missing a little bit of juice, though--it needed to be boosted over the top

The charge overloaded the machine.

The machine overloaded the time continuum.

The X-Team and other bystanders would see the street ad road literally seem to twist and warp, multiple images and half-seen alternate streets popping in and out of the field of view as time itself was stretched to it's breaking point and back, undoing the damage that Hydra had done.

And then, with a pop, all was gone. The Nazis, the mongols, the centurions--all vanished, as if they had never been there before.

Of course, the MODERN day Hydra troopers were still around, but now found themselves vastly outnumbered.

The van, headmistress, and sharkboy were nowhere to be seen, either.

As the Nazis disintegrated around them, Emilie abandoned Will per his own request after things stopped being all topsy-turvy nausea inducing , and head-butted the nearest Hydra soldier to her. She was bothered by the lack of vehicle, teacher, and techno-mage, but those things weren't super tiny so her immediate dread was on the boy who might be crushed under foot.

"Victor?! Vic?!" She began to call out as she looked for him, ready to force her way through any HYDRA trooper stupid enough to cross her path.

As the soldiers had been escaping from the tank the dull thud of an explosion came from within, the force throwing one of the soldiers from the hatch. A second later and the tank lurched with the force of a much more massive explosion as the ammunition carried on board was set off by the initial explosion. The turret of the tank was blown off of the chassis and sent tumbling through the air before it smashed through the pavement twenty feet away. The shell of the tank emitted thick black billowing smoke from every opening.

And then it was gone!

Where the tank HAD been, there was a large scorch mark, in the middle of which lay a tiny battered, bruised, and slightly scorched form.

Shielding herself to keep Hydra units at bay until she could find him, Emilie continued to scour the area where the tank had last been, until she found the scorch mark.

Furrowing her brow, she came up to the tiny form of her universal anchor.

"Victor?" She said, reaching down lightly and brushing a finger against his side to see if he'd respond.

Emilie glared at the tiny man, gently and gingerly picking him up in her hands.

"You didn't tell me you were going to blow the thing up." She stated angrily, though she did not yell as she figured his head hurt probably as much as everything else.

Victor coughed, the boy pretty easy to scoop up. Nothing looked broken, he just looked like he'd been shoved into dryer with some billiard balls and some soot before it was turned on for two hours.

"Well I didn't have a lot of options. I'm not very scary. Grenades are scary."

The vine hands finished harassing the remaining Hydra soldiers and retreated under the soil after flipping them off.

Inside the wall, Shane pulled his arms out of the ground and flopped onto his back. "Nobody told me this bloody hero shite was so exhausting."

"Shhh. You're not going to die, not right now." Emilie shifted Victor into her left hand and shrugged off her jacket, then slowly into the right and got it off her entirely. She laid Victor inside of it , cradling him in her arms.

Emilie would carry him back to the gates like this, stopping briefly to speak to Shane.

"The headmistress and Toshiro disappeared. I doubt that's a good thing." She stated to the boy she met briefly in the bathrooms that one time, and that her roommate had put a name to, hoping to pass the information on so that someone could try and look for them while she tended to Victor.
