Checking out the New Digs

Carlos had jogged from campus to Maldon proper. As a non-obvious mutant, he was only getting the sorts of looks he was used to, and not a "oh, there's a freaky freak" looks that someone like Nailah probably would get.

Those looks changed somewhat when he leapt over a concrete retaining wall to move onto another street, but probably just classified him as "one of those parkour idiots" rather than anything else.

He was taking in the layout of the city proper--you never knew when you needed to know where something was, he thought to himself, as he entered the shopping district.

Shane emerged from a nearby music store with a shopping bag and turned to walk in Carlos' direction.

"Oh, from the uni too right?" he asked in his not-especially-cultured British accent.
