The woman's whole frame tenses as she hears someone behind her, spinning on a heel. There's another brief flash in the woman's eyes as the light catches them, glinting green in her retinas before her pupils contract to focus on the two. Her brow is thick with deep-set eyes, her cheekbones prominent and angular. She looks them over, nostrils flaring again.

"...maybe," she says. "Maybe you can."

Shane tried not to dwell on what was probably just his imagination.

"If you need directions or something, we know this town pre... well, reasonably well."

"Indeed. So is there some place you're looking for?"

Her toffee-colored eyes dart to Tereza, her bearing still tense and anxious.

"There is... a school, yes? A school in this town?"

Her accent is mostly British, but there's a hint of something else behind it, as if English isn't her first language.

Tereza glanced at Shane and then back to the woman, "Yes, several, including a university."

"And there are many like you, there?" She asks, looking over Shane's skintone.

"If you mean mutants then yeah. Green ones, not so much."

"Wonderful," she says as a broad smile spreads across her lips. "Would you like to show me around?"

She has... excellent teeth.

"You thinking about attending?" Tereza kept her manner friendly, but made no effort to move or lead the woman anywhere.

"Hmm, I've never really had a head for... book learning. But it must be so nice to be among others who are... different, yes?"

She looms over Tereza as she says this, leaning forward. It's hard to tell how the gesture is meant, but those toffee-colored eyes meet her gaze rather intensely.

In the moist air, the smell of wet dog is palpable to them.

Shane shuddered at the eerily timed odor and glanced around nervously.

Tereza locked gazes with the woman, "It has its moments." Looming over her wasn't overly difficult, but her undercurrent of pissed-off-ness from personal bullshit kept her from being intimidated. "So, what's your name? They usually ask for those sorts of things *if* we bring in visitors."

"You can call me Isolde," she says, a bit of her accent creeping back in as she says the name.

She hasn't broken off the staring contest with Tereza yet.

"Easy, yes? Like old friends."

Let's not get started on me and 'old friends.'

"Isolde, that's a nice name," she saids as the staring contest continued. "Where are you from?"

"Germany," she says, apparently still not willing to back down.

"I haven't been back there for many years, though."

"Well, there's certainly quite a few people here who can understand not being able to go home." It was an assumption, she realized, but given the overall tenor of the woman, she didn't think it was too far off base.

"Würzburg was just not a place I wanted to be anymore," she says as if that explains everything.

"And now I am here, with you."

"Well, that's a sentiment I can certainly empathize with," Tereza said. Her body posture relaxed slightly, but her gaze stayed locked. "Been on the road a while?"

She nods, still not breaking eye contact.

"I go where things lead. I hear things, I find things, I move on."

"This is where I am led. To your school."

"There's always something to seek. Sometimes someone. So why would I be idle when I could chase it down?"

"The trail leads where it will. I cross many paths, many cross mine. One of you crossed mine before. He smells different now, but I remember."

Did she mean him? She couldn't mean him could she? The thought unnerved him for some reason he couldn't identify.

"One... of us?"

"You want to keep it that way, you'll stop baiting my friend," Tereza said, her frown deepening. Out of Isolde's sight, but certainly within Shane's, a blade of ice began to form in Tereza's hand.

"You might, too."

"It's so much simpler than that," she chuckles, her frame shaking faintly as her joints start to pop.

"I go bump in the night," she grins through sharpening teeth, her eyes paling to golden.

Tereza doesn't wait for more. She spins, lashing out with her arm trying to clock Isolde with the ice that's wrapped around her fist. "Wrong answer."

Isolde takes the blow Tereza makes to her helpfully looming face, stumbling back. It doesn't faze her for long, as she wipes the blood from her cut lip with a sleeve, smirking.

"Oh, oh, it must be my birthday..."

Her frame wrenches and cracks, suddenly filling out her clothes much better, dark hair sprouting over her wrists and the back of her hands as her nails push forth into thick talons.

"Not the time for a break down, Shane," Tereza said, the ice that had been forming into a blade suddenly cracking out like a whip. "So what are you, some sort of crazy feral mutant?"

"Oh, what is it with people and labels? Like if you put a word to it, you can understand it..."

Her swelling frame hunches over, her ears twitching to points as the spreading black pelt crowds up around her face, her jaws snapping forward into a canine muzzle.

"...life's messier than that, princess."

"Holy shit it was real..." he muttered before slapping himself, "Much better."

He shifted his right forearm into a thick spiked wooden club. "And if it's real it can bleed," he smirked.
