"Whoa, what? Are you seeing this too?" she asks Haley as she looks at her arm to make sure she isn't being electrocuted or something.

"...the hell?" Haley asked, squinting at her partner's arm while trying to stay focused on the clearer picture of the room her telepathy was picking up. "Does that hurt?"

"Just kinda... tingles?"

It doesn't hurt. In fact, the tingle rolls into a warm satisfied feeling after a few more moments. In the space between the four statuettes, it almost looks like a heat mirage, though oddly stretched.

Haley can sense that, of all the psychic impressions in the room, the ones with the most significance are between the statuettes.

"I...think what we're looking for is in between those statues." Haley said relaxing her focus for a moment.

Nailah squints her eyes and tries to see if there's anything between the statues other than warbly distortion and if so, carefully reaches out to poke a finger through the heat shimmer to get at what might be behind it.

The shimmer resists her for a moment before she feels her finger touching the cover of a book.

"Aha!" Thinking that'll be that she grabs the book and tries to pull it out of the distortion.

The distortion clings to it like cobwebs as she pulls it out before finally snapping away from the book. The distortion wrinkles for a moment and then dissipates, revealing two more books on the table. The books appear old and bound in leather with no titles on their covers or spines.

"Freaky..." she says, though her tone of voice sounds more fascinated than put off. "Books out of nowhere."

"This is so weird..." she nodded in agreement, moving up to stand next to her partner.

Nailah flips open the book she's holding to flip through a couple of pages out of curiosity.

Some diagrams and words that almost make sense to Nailah before they slip away from her. They don't appear to be in any sort of language that she's familiar with at the very least. There are a lot of notes as if this was someone's notebook and not a leather-bound book that probably more appropriately belongs in a library.

"Looks more like an old school lab journal or something."

"Whatever it is, it makes no sense to me. Let's grab this stuff and head back." she says, grabbing the other books before looking at the figurines. "You think we should bring those too?"

"The statues that are like a pocket dimension or some shit? Yeah, I think we should. Who knows what else they do."

"Alright. Let's go then." she says as they take the books and the small statues and head back to the infirmary.

Nailah reaches for the door-handle, then seems to remember the polite thing and gives the door a couple knocks before actually opening it and stepping inside.

A well-dressed woman is sitting in a chair next to the bed. The old man appears to be asleep, breathing slowly and deeply. The woman looks up from some sort of electronic tablet device. "Oh, you must be the people who helped my brother-in-law out. I can't thank you enough."

"Oh. Hi. Yeah... uhm, we did..." Nailah says, a little bit guarded from not having expected somebody to be in the room. "I'm Nailah." she adds, tightening her grip on the books she's carrying just a little.

"I'm Erica. My brother-in-law told me about those thugs you rescued him from and that he'd sent you to retrieve some of his possessions."

"He did, yeah. You got here fast, he didn't even mention he had family in town." she says, eyeing the woman suspiciously.

"I live in Chelmsford and your infirmary staff managed to get a hold of me through my husband," She looks embarrassed, "I may have broken several speed limits getting here."

Haley regarded the woman with a guarded expression on her face.

"What's her deal? Think she's legit? Should I y to scan her?" she asked her partner telepathically.

"Can't hurt, right?" Nailah tries to think her suspicions towards Haley.

"Well, I'm glad he has family here that cares about him. Seems like there are some not very nice people after him."

"I can't say I approve of what his business gets him up to, but he's still family and we have to take care of family," she says, which was mostly the truth, but she was a little hard to read.

Halley focused on trying to skim the woman's surface thoughts a she and Nailah conversed.

"Don't think he mentioned you Erica. What do you do?"

"Business woman. Youseff," she gestures to the man in the bed, "doesn't approve of my profession, says it doesn't look good for his brother. He's sort of old-fashioned that way."

Her surface thoughts seem to be a mixture of concern for the old man's current state and a concern about what the girls might have brought into the room.

"His brother do the same thing as him?" she asked, trying to make small talk as she probed deeper.

"No, my husband really doesn't have the talent for it," she says as Haley ran up against a wall in her thoughts, "but Youseff taught us a trick to protect us from people who might lash out at his family."

"Well, that's good..." Nailah says awkwardly. She's not entirely sure if she can trust the woman but she doesn't really have a reason not to. There must be at least some truth to what she's saying if the staff let her in here. And when she asks her power for the right thing to do, the overwhelming feeling of deja-vu has her placing the books on the nightstand.

"I mean we could stick around if you want. Stand guard, just in case?" she says as she walks over to place the books on the small table next to the bed.

"I'm sure your school has more than adequate security and we'll be safe here. You look tired, you should probably get some rest."

"She's blocking my scan... But we do have pretty decent security here I guess... What do you think?"

"Can we get you anything?"

"No, I'm good. Thank you," she says, taking her seat again and looking fondly at the man in the bed.

"My power seems to think this is alright, so it's probably fine..." Nailah sends back as she shrugs slightly at the woman. "Well, if anybody gives him any trouble, let us know. Hopefully he'll be alright, I'll drop by in the morning to check up on him."

Erica smiles at her, "Thank you... for everything."
