Danger Room

Postby Amy Myers » Thu Sep 25, 2025 3:33 pm

As promised, Amy is waiting at the entrance to the Point at about 2:50. In an effort to stop fidgeting and to not have to do it with people watching later she's sitting on the grass next to the road, legs folded and eyes closed. Meditation, mindfulness-based stress reduction, centering, breathing exercise, all various things that to her feel like the boil down to calming the fuck down. It's not that it doesn't work, but that's really all it is. Tricking herself into relaxing within her power rather than against it. She's hovering an inch or so off the ground, letting the nervous energy run through and around her to stabilize her center. Like a spinning top and she hates how apt such a stupid comparison is.

A sudden light gust announced Thrax's arrival as he touched down on the grass. "Yo!" he exclaimed, either not realizing she was meditating or not thinking about it at all.

"Did I use that right? I'm not sure I used that right."

As the others were gathered, Naku was approaching from a distance. Using the tried and true method of left foot right foot, he made his way down the path. Was still making it. Guitarless, his hair flowed away from his face with the wind pushing it back as he made his way to the other two.

Getting closer he just sped up his walking, torn between trying to be suave and not wanting to make them wait more.

Amy startles slightly, having disregarded the gust of wind as just, well, wind.

"Wh-what? Oh!" she says as she drops two inches to the ground, catching herself with her arms to avoid falling backwards. "Use what right?" she blinks. The... the word 'yo'?" she asks, confused.

He, in fact, was.

Naku reached them after this. It was noted he was wearing more fitting clothing thank previous. "Hey y'all. Ready for today?" he asked, eyeing Amy to see if she seemed on edge or if it was just his imagination. He looked Thrax over a moment. "Why do you seem taller?" he wondered randomly.

Amy just nods and leads them to the entrance. With a swipe of her student ID the large doors unlock, the four spokes of the X moving outwards before the rest of the door parts in the middle. Down a sterile, futuristic-looking corridor of metal wall panels illuminated by recessed strips of lighting about two thirds up the wall. Amy stops at the first door they come across but then briefly points down the corridor that, after a couple meters, leads into a large, round junction of a room filled with screens and consoles on one side and seating on the other.

"Over there's the briefing room and then from there you've got corridors going to the hangar, the workshops, armory and all that." she points out before opening the door to the Danger Room. Or at least another, smaller corridor with two doors on the right, one on the left and one straight on. "Locker rooms and showers on the right there, to the left is an observation deck." she says as she keeps going straight and leading them into a large but thoroughly boring room. About 20 by 20 meters large and about as high and clad in more metal wall panels, though the walls and ceiling seems to have larger gaps between the panels from which a vague illumination flickers to life as they enter.

"And here we are. Not much yet, but give it a sec." she says before turning slightly and addressing the thin air. "Room, please load Amy's practice range?"

There's an acknowledging beep and then the whole room seems to ripple with small holographic cubes before settling into a completely new view. A grassy field surrounds what looks like a shooting range of sorts, though one filled with blocks of various materials, some thicker, some thinner. Above them in the air a couple dozen vaguely translucent rings float in an arrangement of a flight course. The walls of the room are gone, replaced with a kind of generic landscape of fields and woods.

"Do not ask me how this works. The room produces some kind of solid light construct holograms."

Thrax knew what hard-light constructs could do and couldn't help but grin. He expected something barely functional but this was a full on immersion sim. Very impressive. "Nice. I thought that's what this was going to be. Honestly, I'm impressed they've bashed together different alien tech so well. Whatever Earthling put this together is a genius. This is actually the most convincing simulators I've seen, though truthfully I haven't seen but the one."

"Alien? Guess its better than more Earthlings having this ability," he said with a low whistle. "How much time did it take to set up a room like this?"

"I'm the wrong person to ask that, but there's some history to the mansion and the grounds." Amy shrugs. "It is crazy impressive though. You can barely tell it's fake, although I dunno how well it'll work with your power if you try to use it on constructs. I know the telepaths say it's not all that great for them, which I guess makes sense? So things in here might not have the right kinda life-force for you to work with?"

Still, he looked to Amy. "You seem... nervous. Is it about your power or how much we might end up messing with the Danger Room?" He asked with a warm grin. He was a bit nervous himself, but who wouldn't when he hadn't tested his own abilities out there yet?

"Call it performance anxiety. I've gotten better about it but I've never been one to show off. And this feels at least a little like it. Certainly not going to let you use your power without at least seeing what you're dealing with." she sighs a little and turns towards the firing range. A number of slabs of material of varying sorts and thickness are set out and Amy takes a slow and measured breath. Opening her eyes she lets it out and points both her palms at a block of concrete a good three feet thick. A glow gathers in her hands and rapidly grows into a beam of brilliant white light that slams into the concrete block. There's a physicality to the impact that seems to reverberate out as chunks of concrete are blown free, the continuous beam slowly hammering deeper. After ten seconds or so it punches through all the way and carves a groove into the sand beyond in the split second it takes Amy to dismiss the beam, leaving behind an almost perfectly circular hole in the concrete, the inside surface of which is glowing faintly from the sheer friction.

There was a lot to take in. The sheer power of her energy was part of it. There was no shortage, even when she tapered off, he could tell she had more instore. Like Thrax, Naku was impressed. In a more silent awe, he watched, managing not to let his jaw drop on the floor. One thing was for certain... Amy was out of his league.

For now.

Naku looked on, rubbing the side of his head as he watched whimsically. "You truly are something. I wonder if i can process your energy fast enough to make use of it. Im willing to try if... you can shoot slower?" he asked for a moment. "Keep practicingfor now if you want! I'll figure a way to make it work. I still want to, somehow..." he said before crossing his arms, lost in thought.

Amy is pleasantly surprised, she fully expected Naku to back away from the idea of trying to affect her power.

"Uh, yeah sure. Oh. Thrax, you can just ask the computer to put down whatever you like. Here. Computer, put a tree and a car in the shooting range." she says and the program dutifully does just that, rendering the targets for Thrax.

Leaving those to the Hyena-Alien she nods at Naku and takes aim at a similar concrete block but only holds out one hand. Her arm is noticeably shaky after unleashing the full extent of her powers but she still manages to keep a grip on the energy coursing through her and into her palm. Rather than just unleashing it she focuses on narrowing it, restricting the energy into a thinner beam that's no less bright but much slower at hammering away at the concrete.

Thrax cackled excitedly in a way that sounded as much like a hyena's psuedo-laugh as a human noise and took a few steps away from the others lest they get zapped by accident. Eyeing the tree, he began gathering voltage between his hands as he rolled them around each other. With an exclamation of effort, he fired off an impressive lightning bolt, the thunder of which shook the air as if lanced into the tree. The discharge caused boiling moisture and sap to cracked the tree open and charred the bark, leaving a smoldering mess in its wake.

"Haha! Yes! That was awesome!"

Re: Danger Room

Thrax's bit of joy was heard, but not explored as deeply as Amy's beam. She was casting the beam slower, he noticed. It was indeed from her own life force that he could tell, or was it something more. Touching the beam was crazy. He looked to her, shooting the beam with one hand which left her other free.

A direct touch would probably work...

Naku found his face reddening, but kept his mind focused on the task. He needs to focus on the task, making a shield with outside energy. He thought of how the last time worked. He didn't need to touch anyone at all. Was that where it went wrong?

He came to stand by Amy, watching her work a moment before looking to her. "I'll stand behind you. Keep going," he said, having a feeling she would be able to without problem. Once hie back was close to hers, he closed his eyes and opened his senses. The tapped into what he could feel in the room. Emotions were as tangible as rain drops to him. There, but just needing to be swayed into something more. He was aware or what was mostly coming from the other two in the room. Amy more so than Thrax due to pure distance away from each other.

The goal was to feel what he was working with. The energy they shot out, was it as much of their life force or was it something else? Did it carry with them any pertinent feeling, or was it an excess of emotions pieced together? More importantly... could Naku tap into it? This was most important with Amy. He would try to exude his own life force around him. invisible to the naked eye, it was calm, slightly nervous, and a bit excited of the possibilities to come. Depending on how alert they were, it was possible for other to feel that, but only if they were receptive.

In this state, he tried to latch on to the various energies he was used to within five feet or so in preparation of using them as a forcefield if he ws able to.

The energy coursing through Amy is different than normal. Where lifeforce would normally cycle through the body it's more like it completely suffuses hers and the beam she's firing is doing practically nothing to deplete it. That too is odd, it's not being much of a reservoir as it is just there and it is restless. Drawing on it is almost too easy, leaping out at his touch and making Amy shift or twitch a little in response, making her have to readjust her aim.

Shaping or properly manifesting this energy proofs to be a problem though. It billows out into kind of a half-bubble but then it's surface continues to bulge and pop with minor explosions that blow back as much as they do outward until the whole shield is riddled and collapses into nothing.

Thrax had turned to watch Naku's attempt. Her energy seemed to want to behave no more than his electricity did, actively resisting attempts to guide it. The wind was far easier to control. He had long since learned to lean into its natural inclinations but her energy didn't appear to be a force found in nature.

Walking back over to them, he said, "What helps me is understanding what the energy wants to do and trying to by its rules instead of imposing my own. For instance, trying to force lightning to strike something that isn't a conductor is a fool's errand. Of course, understanding yours is going to be harder without established science to go on."

Even though it didn't do what he wanted, Naku still got a feel of it. It was more and less than he pictured. It was foreign how her energy reacted, but it didn't make it wrong. The shield around them never solidified wholly. The bursts that came up were enough to tell Naku he didn't have what it took to make this work right now.

When Thrax came by, the blue haired man released his hold over her power, allowing the full force to return to her uninterrupted. He listed to their alien friend and gave a nod. "Yeah, I'm not in the business of forcing things. Im not in line with Amy enough to make it work. With time, practice, and maybe gear I could make it happen, but... again, that's not up to me alone," he said before looking back to Amy.

"It felt odd. Kind of like having a stitch taken out, but not really." she says, somewhat relieved that neither of the two are too bothered by her tentative control over devastating forces. She's a bit put off by Thrax' cheering about it, but then he talks about his own power and that does sound like he understands.

"There's not really anything my power wants to do as far as anyone can tell. It's 'kinetic light' whatever that means and it just kind of wants to go. Obviously I can't just let it, but even when I use it to fly..." she pauses for a moment, trying to decide how much she actually wants to talk about this. But the two seem pretty understanding on top of having powers that are similar enough they might have some insight. "I'm almost more afraid to push that as far as it can go. The few times I've tried I just kept going faster and faster and the more I did I sort of... zoned out? Not quite asleep but I was worried if I pushed it as far as it could go I might just lose it completely and just keep going for who knows how long."

Thrax nodded. "It sounds like your body can't handle the speed you're able to generate. Or maybe your mind just can't process it yet and is trying to compensate by reducing your awareness. But I guess that's dangerous either way."

"Oh! What about using some sort of filter to slow the light down? You know, how violet light moves a little slower than the rest. Assuming you can find something your light can pass through without blowing a hole in it."

"I think my body can handle it. Or my power helps it handle it? I never feel cold or g-forces or anything like that when I fly. It's more like a meditative state or something. Like I'm on cruise control on the highway." she shrugs.

"I never thought about a filter but... something like Cyclops' visor, yeah? Some kinda gloves or suit? I don't know how anything like that works. I didn't even know violet light is slower than, what, regular light? Damn, you probably know a lot more about this kind of stuff than us, what with having a space ship and all."

"We'll all be learning a lot. Maybe there are some classes on energy I can take. Do they ever have one off lectures for people to take?" He wondered, still processing all the other information he got from them.

While the others were talking, Naku's eyes had been on her targets. He thought about how it felt under his guidance, reviewed how it buckled and failed to be tamed by him. Hands in his pockets again, he looked to Amy, a small reassuring smile on his face. "You have a lot of raw talent. Being aware of when you lose control is part of the process, right? To be fair, I'm certain you could make shields of your own down the line. When I get a hand of mine, we could train together. Maybe. If you want," he said, trying to be suave but failing in execution in the first place.

He looked over to Thrax. "I'd like to see your again. Just to the heck of it. Sadly, i have no flashy offensive skill that doesn't involve someone already hurt. The power you both have a hold of is really impressive," he added. He was partial towards Amy's for reasons he wouldn't say, but absolutely wasn't going to make waves about it now.

Other than that you'll have to ask. The head-mistress will absolutely talk your head off if you ask her about theory but that doesn't really get at how it feels to use your power. Still, she's pretty smart on account of being some kind of artificial intelligence."

"You do realize I can't resist a request to show off and be the center of attention, right?" he asked with a exuberant grin.

He stepped back and cracked his knuckles, turning to face the car as he charged up. "Now your wheeled vehicles are pretty resilient to lightning strikes, but if I sustain the bolt I'm bound to do some damage." Flinging out his hands, a bolt of electricity leaped between him and the vehicle. At first, it merely produced a whole lot of sparks but then the fuel ignited and a fireball erupted from the front end to the sound of Thrax's infectious laughter. Apparently, guys loving explosions wasn't just a human thing.

Naku wanted to say something suave to Amy's words, but he was too taken aback by her beauty. It was more than her looks. It was something much deeper: the beauty of potential. He knew she was someone special before. After today though, the thoughts became fact. She was going to be someone to watch. Naku hoped he could see her soar.

When he did open his mouth to speak, Thrax spoke up first. He caused a grin to come to the furless human. With arms crossed, he watched as the wonderous being flexed his powers to the fullest. Naku was left wide eyed and whistling. "Remind me not to get on your bad side," he said to Thrax, but his eyes dashed to Amy as well to include her. "You are mighty, that's for sure. Glad I got to see y'alls powers in action," he said with a grin.

"Yeah, I can imagine coming back to Earth is difficult at first. Seems like you've figured it out now?" he wondered at Thrax's comments before looking to Amy. "So one must talk to Ms. Kinney to get their settings in the computer?
