"Looked to me like you were." she smirks. "Don't worry, I've taken worse hits for less."

"I don't really know what to say to that. This isn't like me."

Nash's attacks had good form, and he landed several solid hits. His over all technique showed he had probably learned almost everything he knew from training at XI. While he was well past the basics, he was still not that advanced.

"Good work for a non-combat mutation. Keep at it." she finishes out her round. "Alright everyone, that's a wrap for today. Good show overall, what I've seen looks promising."

She walks back over to where Carlos is standing and cracks her neck. "Now, I believe we have a date?" she grins.

"Win or lose, if you want one, you shall have it," Carlos grinned back, limbering up.

"Any set of rules you'd prefer or do you want to try your luck in a free-for-all?"she grins, stretching a little but it almost looks like it's more out of boredom than an actual need to do so.

"Ladies' choice," Carlos grinned, with a bow.

"Your funeral." she smirks and returns the bow. She doesn't even bother to drop into a proper stance before rushing at Carlos, dropping low at the last second and twirling into an elbow-strike aimed at his stomach.

Carlos went up and over, doing a front-half flip. He attempted to use Laura's shoulders almost like a pommel horse, vaulting himself up and over to land cleanly on the other side.

Laura's shoulder is plenty sturdy to support this stunt, although when she catches on to it she lets his weight push her shoulder down, catching herself with her hands on the floor and flips her leg up in an attempt to kick Carlos in the stomach mid-vault.

She did, in fact, get a grazing blow in, forcing Carlos to land in a three-point stance rather than light on his feet.

With Laura on the floor, Carlos then burst forward and tried to slide-kick her while she was down.

Laura doesn't even try to get up in time. She simply takes the hit, which does knock the air out of her but doesn't seem to physically move her much. She does, however, immediately try to grab Carlos foot as she pulls herself up from the floor and tries to flip Carlos over by twisting his leg. For someone as relatively scrawny as her she's almost impossibly strong.

Stronger than Carlos expected, as well, as he was flipped over and hit the ground with a thud.

To his credit, he quickly was back on his feet, and took a more cautious pose.

Laura is grinning, her hair already kind of hanging in her face in strands. She holds out her hand and beckons Carlos a couple times with her fingers.

Carlos manifested his staff, and approached in a spiral, using the staff to keep distance and try to get a few blows in.

Laura kind of dances back and forth a bit, trying to find a good way to both dodge and move in closer, but only succeeds in blocking a couple blows with her forearms at the last second, which doesn't look very pleasant. After a couple of hits like that she looks like she's had enough and takes careful aim before jumping at Carlos, both arms pulled back as if she was about to charge face first into the staff. At the last second she brings one arm forward, two blades snapping out between her fingers as she thrusts them into the path of the staff. Without wanting to give Carlos a chance to bring the staff around she keeps up her momentum and tries to headbutt him with the sheer momentum of having thrown herself at him.

Carlos was knocked to the floor, where he landed with a thud, and stayed down.

X-23 comes to a stop, panting heavily, claws still extended. When she looks around at the people watching she seems to snap out of it, claws retracting almost immediately and she walks over to Carlos, extending a hand to help him up.

Carlos, panting heavily, took the hand...

...and used it to topple Laura over.

"You said no rules," he grinned, kipping up to his feet.

Laura looks genuinely surprised by that and goes flying, crashing into the floor and only recovering into a roll somewhat before crashing into the wall. She's quick to jump to her feet though, cracking a couple joints in her shoulders and neck before charging at Carlos. It's not a very refined style or feint, she's just trying to crash into him with with her shoulder as if he was a door she's trying to bust down.

Carlos tried to sidestep and use her momentum to throw her---and it might have worked against a normal person, but NOT against X-23. Down Carlos went in a heap, and this time, it was for reals.

To her credit, she tries to help him up again, despite his earlier trickery. She might be feeling a little guilty about unloading on him.

"I give," Carlos said, waving her off and using his staff to draw himself back to his feet. "You win."

"I'm impressed." she says when he pulls himself up by himself. "Mostly 'cause you had the cojones to do this, but you did alright, kid." she says, rubbing her forearms. The bruises are already fading but he'd certainly left a mark.
