"Monsters are spared the pain of remorse!" the thing in the corner interjects. Or rather, the pale young woman who looks a lot like Samantha. A more feral Samantha that's covered in mud and hair that's more knots than strands.

Sam looks back to Cailleach when her double speaks up and sighs.

"...I guess now you both know why she was able to control me."

"True, but humans are not monsters, they can choose to be, but each and every time ones does, it ends in disaster. I have been remorseless, lived without the burden of a conscience. In the end I chose humanity. It has been nothing but a pain, figuratively and literally, but when they smile at me and embrace me, knowing what they do about me, those moments make it all worth it."

Sam's connection to Tereza flares open wide, but now she's sensing almost entirely wolf. The wolf seems... sad isn't the right word. Remorseful? Not quite right either. Sorting through the impressions, it seems to be a weird alchemy of forlorn and resigned.

Cailleach runs her fingers through her hair along the scalp, then clenches fistfuls of it in frustration.

"They still don't understand it." she mutters to herself. "Why don't they understand it?"

"It's so simple!" her voice suddenly rises into a scream.

"What did you think I'd do. Just go full on boojum? Leave Samantha behind and start terrorizing the countryside with my wolves?"

Cailleach just snarls at Sam and pulls her knees up to bury her face against them in a surprisingly human gesture. Something she seems to realize herself after a couple moments and her body shifts, skin flattening into hard segments until she's just a giant curled up isopod sitting on the bed.

The wolf speaks, "Now, thanks to you, she's gained one wolf and likely lost another."

"...I want to make it right," she sighs.

"I never wanted either of you hurt. I just... couldn't figure out how to fight her at first."

"Three to one, three in one. Never alone." She mumbled softly as she moved to sit down again near the cell door. She is quietly pulling up her pant leg to check the wound.

The wound itself doesn't hurt nearly as much. it isn't actively bleeding anymore, and while the spots where teeth met flesh are obvious enough, the actual holes have nearly closed.

Here and there around the wound Viv can see pale hairs scattered. They might be blonde like the hair she's known, but contrasted with the dried blood they look stark white.

The wolf tilts her head to regard Sam, "You bonded with me first, after our fight. She's... stubborn. If I had to guess, I'd say she doesn't like people in her head, so I think she resists it... sort of." That certainly sounded like Tereza, but it felt like there was something missing.
