The debriefing room was not designed for this.

About 40 X-Men and X-Adjacent Men were crammed into the largest briefing room they had, to discuss the missions that had just taken place, and the next steps from there. The team that had gone to Mutant Town were regaining their sense of hearing after the sonic attack; the team that had gone to the woods were getting their humanity back, and the future team...

...The future team had the grand prize.

One of the Wills stood up in the front, drawing everyone's attention.

"Right! Good job, everyone. Tremendous.

...OK, it would have been nice to have more than one of these gizmos intact, but one is better than zero. I'm informed by Tosh, ASHLIE and the rest of the tech team -- and let's give a great big hand to the tech team for their tireless work here -- that we can reverse-engineer this thing and use it to re-seperate the universes. It shouldn't take long at all, honestly; all we have to do is interface it with the Mastermind Computer, and it will automatically and intrinsically sort the universes, properly. We're all going to go home, as soon as we've done the important safety checks to make sure we don't, you know, blow everything up. Thank you, so much, to everyone involved. Are there any questions?"

The viewscreen flickered to life, and a madman appeared.

Honestly, do you ~always~ have to go out and try to save the day? You couldn't just sit back and let things run their natural course? I figured shoving you all in one corner would keep you out of my hair for five goddamned minutes, but noooo, you had to go ~do-gooding~.

Always, and always, and ~always~. I hop from dimension to dimension, and what do I find, every time? The X-Men. Yesterday, tomorrow, and everywhen in between. It's ~quite~ aggravating.

But that's finished now. Your world's about to end, and it would have been empty of me not to give you the illusion of hope. This will, if all goes according to plan -- and it always does -- the LAST time you and I shall cross paths.

Stunned into stupefied silence? I can't blame you; the lot of you in there don't have enough brain-cells to rub together to even come close to appearing on my level. So let me dumb this down so even YOU lot can understand.

I shunted you all into one universe so I could go into YOUR worlds without being pestered by bugs in yellow and black spandex. Yes, it's true that your combined universe might have experienced some slight collapses of structural integrity, but eh. You're the ~X-Men~, I'm sure you'd figure SOMETHING out.

But, no, you can't leave well enough alone. So, it looks like I'm just going to have to come in there myself and grind each and every one of you to dust under my heel!

Artemis' expression would have been stark white even without being projected onto that marble-like bust. Almost immediately the image cut out and the mech went into what looked like power-down mode.

Yes, yes, quip away. I figured with you all in one dimension, you'd quip enough to make your own ears bleed and no one elses.

What do I ~want~, Lizardman? I wanted to do this the quick and painless way, with all of you locked together, out of my hair for once. I was thinking of setting up shop, free to continue my research without having you lot pop in every five minutes. 'No, Doctor, you can't experiment with the fundamental forces of reality'. 'No, Doctor, you can't invert gravity in a 45 kilometer square around central Berlin'. 'No, Doctor, you have to pay for those birthday cards'. They have no weight! The self-service checkout does not recognize them!

And so, I created this little situation for you all. Clear out three universes of their little X-festations, and quarantine it all over there. I figured you'd spend your time just stabilizing what you had -- creating a new world for the four of you. But no, of course not, not the X-Men. Chimps with bombs, destroying and smashing their way to the inevitable end.

Three worlds in the palm of my hand, ready to serve my needs. And all of you, there to ruin it. No vision! No panache! No refunds.

Well, as fun as that has been to watch, I think it's time this little game ended. There's a rerun of Eastenders I've missed in two different universes; I don't plan to miss it in a third.

I'm going to come over there and sort your molecules alphabetically."

The room suddenly shook, as if an earthquake had just hit.

Haley's telepathy was fairly clear -- the Doc was near the quad. And he wasn't alone.

Doctor Tomorrow hovered over the quad, staff in hand. He grinned down at the assembled X-Men, a collection of the brightest and finest four worlds had to offer.

Behind him, in the sky, a huge, black....something had opened up. A rift, like the dimensional ones the X-Teams had explored, only nastier and more troublesome looking.

In between Tomorrow and the rift was everyone.

Vampires. Skrulls. Sentinels. Agents of a half-dozen secret organizations. Twisted versions of friends and family. Aliens from the farthest dimensions. And everything in between.

A fair fight it was, then.

The older Sara hangs back for a moment and opens up what looks like a thermos, fog steaming from it's opening as she reaches inside with a stone hand and pulls out a chunk of grey stuff, still steaming from the liquid nitrogen. She opens up a panel in the contraption she was fiddling with and places the chunk (that's shaped suspiciously like a finger) inside, before sealing the panel.

"I found the old lab and the arm I put on ice way back when." she says as she walks up to Null. "No time to explain, but hopefully this'll make sure I don't lose you again." she says. "Consider it a biological tracker that's coded to the right universe." she adds and drives the syringe part of the contraption into Null's shoulder, injecting a small bit of old-timey Will clay.

"Uh.....that's a...that's a lot of guys.

New plan -- someone's got to get to the Crystal Computer, take that tech, figure out how it works, and....blast these guys back to wherever they came from.

And if they could do that, like, now...that'd be appreciated."

"Now. Let's get this over with; I left a Hot Pocket back home!" Dr. Tomorrow cackled, whipping his staff forward and firing a beam of something straight at the leaders of the teams.

That was, apparently, the signal, as with a roar, everyone started coming forward...
