I Am a Scientist

The boy frowned as he looked over a screen in the labs of the point. It was scrolling with data related to the dimensional breach, and readings of the chronal distubences that the point's scanners had, uh, scanned.

He took another sip from his coffee, made a face as it had gone cold, and continued to watch the data scrolling by.

There was a sound behind him as Tereza stops in the door, leaning on the doorframe. "Looks like interesting reading."

"It's dull as dishwater, actually, but who am I to judge," the boy said, taking another sip of his coffee and making a face.

"You're the one reading it, so I would assume you would be the one to judge. Not a fan of the coffee?"

"Not generally a fan of it in general. Too bitter.

What brings you down to the point? I didn't think computers and gadgets were your bag."

"Delivering something to the Headmistress. Also making sure the Danger Room's going to be available for the next full moon."

"Well, the Danger Room's been kind of shot since that thing with Conduit until recently. Also hoping a less confined environment will make it a little easier on Viv."

"And you want to use the danger room rather than actual woods so you don't hurt anyone. Smart."

"Having a locking door that only a few people can open is a huge plus in this case. But enough about us werewolves. How're you doing?"

"Aging. And slowly," he said, turning back to his data.

"I'm trying to make heads or tails of the stuff we tracked during the incursion; there has to be something we missed during the chaos."

The boy shook his head.

"No, I think we got everyone.

It's the whole 'we have to wait to age naturally' thing before I go home. The other one might not mind being treated like stinky cheese, but there's got to be a way to science this up. We just didn't have time to find it as everything was collapsing."

"That's right. Patience isn't one of your strong suits. You're not concerned about creating some sort of dimensional... boom?"

"Well, that's what experimentation and science comes in. I'm not the other guy; I look before I leap.

But I will leap. Eventually."

"You saw that only one of us went back through. Don't want to cause a paradox.

That being said, I'm not much of one for 'fate'. If I can figure something out, I'll figure something out. I have a couple ideas."

"Well, hopefully it won't actually be that long. I've got a target now; a problem that is theoretically solvable, so that's what I'm doing.

...I'm not much of a theoretical scientist, though."

"Dimensional rifts opening, throwing everything into chaos? Not exactly conducive for a daily routine.

Unless you plan throwing me at various bladed implements to be part of your daily routine in the near future," he added, after a moment.

"I'm not," Tereza says. "Though it does raise a good point. The X-Men need to do some more teamwork training. What Sam can do is impressive and the Pack works together on instinct, but that's no excuse not to train."
