Leo's heart rate had risen to dangerous levels by the time Doctor McCoy had returned with his treatment, but he had stabilized quickly. The withdrawal hadn't been pretty either, but he had eventually fallen asleep.

When he awoke the next morning, things were different. His mind was clear. And even more telling to others, his body had changed. He was a little smaller, though still quite large at around seven feet tall, and the chitinous limbs coming out of his back had shriveled and fallen off. When checked, his blood was nearly clean with only traces of the organic compound that had in all probability caused his body to go into overdrive.

He was ready to talk.

Ainsley stayed with Manticore, having slept outside his enclosure on a provided chair. He'd had worse.

Should I rouse him?"

She eventually finds an article in the San Francisco Chronicle about the trial of one Doctor George Muto, known to the public as the ecoterrorist supervillain Doctor Evo. The key witness was a boy the doctor had abducted... Tosh himself.

Further down the article, it says Tosh had been taken to a lab hidden under a veterinary hospital. No one could unearth where he had gotten the funds for his facility or where his chief accomplice, a mutant known as Taurus, had disappeared to.

But hold up... a character witness for the defense was one David Grant.

"Possibly even at a zoo proper. I imagine most zoos do their medical stuff in house, if only because I can't imagine a kitty carrier large enough to carry a Lion.

Search for veterinary hospitals that have recently shut down, or been purchased. Change of owners, all that kinda stuff."

More than one veterinary hospital fits the criteria and no zoos have changed hands within the last year. None report missing animals either. Going back further, however, reveals three zoos under new management. The results are promising but need narrowing.

"I don't think this janky old internet has that kinda info, but I can try!" she says, trying a couple variations of spatial disturbances that might have made the news. At the same time she checks if the name 'Grant' comes up in any context of zoos or vets.

The only spatial disturbance she can find is in relation to the semi that portaled away. Grant, however, hits paydirt. A Grant-Morrison Holdings owns one of the zoos. And it's currently closed for renovation.
