Lion Taming

Manticore slowly opened his orange eyes with a groan. The red-maned, black beast's eyes shot wide upon finding himself in a cell and scrambled to his feet, though not steady on just two. He looked around in a panic and lunged at the barrier, getting thrown back with a jolt for his trouble.

"Easy there, big boy." Robin says from the other side of the cell, then turns off towards the side to shout down the corridor.

"He's awake, if you wanna do the whole... brain thing!"

Ainsley entered the room and shuffled sideways, letting Sam take lead. He (perhaps falsely) understood his role to be acting translator and potential good cop. Not head interrogator and bad cop.

"Okay Ainsley, whatever they did to him, they buried him pretty deep underneath... all that. If I'm to get at the human thoughts, we really need his instincts to not be screaming over everything else."

"I'll try." He replied, nodding.

The great thing about this situation was that if this dude was indeed operating on lion software, was that cat was cat was cat. They spoke different dialects, but not languages.

"Good morning friend." He greeted the creature, awaiting a response.

He jerked his great horned head to look at Ainsley with animal fear and fury tinged with the confusion of unexpected communication.

"Letmeoutletmeoutnocage!" he said along with a small, rumbling growl.

"Maybe, but you have to calm down. Otherwise, my friends keep you locked in for safety."

"Tryingcan'tthinkneed... hunt... no! Must..."

He dug his claws into his own hand until blood dripped onto the floor.

"Doctor drugged me. So angry. Need help."

Sam managed to get a little of that.

"Boyo's been drugged with something yea? Seems like for aggression." AInsley explains to Samantha.

"If he'll let us draw a little blood, maybe Doctor McCoy can get something together to cleanse his system."

He seemed to understand, because his eyes widened in fear and he took a step back.

"Needlenono!" he said to Ainsley, much like the victim of a mad scientist would.

"It'll be okay." Ainsley assured his new friend. "Dr.McCoy Is a good doctor. He doesn't hurt patients. He helps.

But he needs samples to figure out what bad doctor did.""

Manticore didn't seem to entirely trust that, but slowly nodded anyway.

Ainsley translated the nod for Sam.

"He's congenial enough but whoever did this to him did a right number on him. Doc's gonna need to be extra careful, he's flighty."

"Okay, I'll get Doctor McCoy. You keep him calm," Sam nods as she heads down the hall.

"I can call Doctor McCoy for you if you'd like," Natalie's voice says from a speaker near Sam.

"Jesus, Nat..." Sam starts, not expecting the voice.

"Have you been in there since... the business?"

"Which business? The shrinking? No, the body's undergoing some maintenance and this was the most convenient place to be where I can still get things done and keep an eye on the Point. Do you want me to call Doctor McCoy?"

"I think it's probably better if I talk to him. It's kind of a... delicate situation, over here."

"Fair enough. If you need anything, let me know." The speaker goes quiet.

The beastman let go of own his arm and started pacing in his cell like a caged animal.

"It's going to be alright friend." Ainsley replied reassuringly.

"What's your name?"

"My... name?" he asked before roaring in frustration, "Can't think. Too much growl in head."

"Let's try to breathe, okay? Do like me." Ainsley began to purposefully and deliberately breathe slow, not unlike a pregnant woman under stress might.

As he attempted to calm Manticore down physically, unbeknownst to him he was also attempting to pacify him mentally, something he'd not done before

He began to focus on breathing. The mental encouragement helped the exercise to calm his feral mind.

"Leo."

Ainsley refrained from commenting on that.

"His name's Leo, make sure Dr.McCoy knows."

"It's nice to meet you Leo. My name is Ainsley.

What sorts of things do you like?"
He asked.

A look of recognition crossed his face.

"Ains... ley?" he asked, appearing to be fighting to keep focused. He groaned, as if it hurt to think that hard. "Mutant Town..."

Come to think of it, Ainsley knew?... well, knew of... a Leo in Lambeth. The teen had been kind of hot-headed, but definitely not a big aggressive kitty. Although he did have the ability to grow quills, much like the ones on Manticore's tail.

"Yes. Ainsley Green. Lambeth."

It took a moment for the name to register.

"Leo Eskandari?!"

"Naaaah mate, you got it twisted." Ainsley replied, using slightly more descriptive words now that he knows the person in there is indeed a person.

"I am excited to see you! I ain't seen anyone from the skids in a London minute is all."

He looked about to say something when he wobbled on his feet and had to support himself with a hand on the wall.

"Heeeeeeeeeyyy Mate. It's okay." Ainsley replied, moving closer to the barrier between them. "Just rest, alright? We'll get you right as rain soon enough."

As he recovered his balance, Ainsley could see that the place where Leo dug his claws in his arm now showed no sign of injury other than a little bloody fur. "Hungry. Harder think. McCoy need hurry."

Doctor McCoy comes down the hallway at last, holding a small kit in one hand.

"Now Leo, don't be alarmed. I'm just here to help."

Leo stared at the famous big blue cat scientist, nervous and possibly some form of starstruck. It was either that or he was sizing up a rival predator.

"This will only be a little pinch," he says, deactivating the force field and stepping into the cell.

Bending down, he tries to bring a small meter up to one of the pads of Leo's paw, pressing a cuplike protrusion to the skin.

"I'll do it on three. One, two..."

If Leo doesn't resist, he'll feel a brief prick.

With a visible force of will, he refrained from disemboweling the good doctor.

Stepping back, Doctor McCoy closes the cell's field again and starts consulting Leo's blood on a tablet computer.
